Ah thanks Duke.
I should also have asked,as I've never been in the beta before, what happens to my progress after the beta ends? Is it lost/retained?
I see they've put the docking computer on Ritalin. No more 'crazy' landings.

During Beta play, they use a copy of your main CMDR save, it's a few weeks old.
When you switch to non-beta play (now or later, anytime), your present CMDR save is exactly where you left it, no changes from beta persist.
It's why many players get crazy, blow up ships, self destruct, whatever. Because it doesn't impact the main save.
Unless you forget to check that you ARE in the beta when doing that... I've seen guys who forgot to start the beta version, started the regular instead and lost ships/credits on their real save. So watch out!

Regarding ship-launched fighters.
As a non-combat player (thus far), I had limited interest for the most part. Best I could imagine would be outfitting my Type-9 as a miner, with a fighter bay to fly defense, buying me time to jump out of the rings in case of trouble.
But I did something off-beat last night...
Since I sold my Python miner, I've missed mining, I've missed the medium landing pad. I've missed grabbing those 40-60 ton cargo missions to outposts. But I don't want to get into a Python again, not yet. Maybe a Type-6? Asp Explorer?
No... I try the Keelback. And wow! Handling feels great in the "zone", and it outfits for a 64 ton miner with dual collectors and 6 bins. Even with the Military Grade armor, still good for 22LY jumps. Great for half-hour bursts of mining play. She's all outfitted and has 50 limpets aboard, can't wait for time to get out there on my first trip.
So then, back to the ship-launched fighters. The Keelback can carry one. I am thinking the Keelback may open up an interesting planet surface play option.
Load it up with a heavy duty 5A shield tank + boosters, a Class 5 fighter hanger, a Class 2 SRV hanger, and some cargo space.
Now that setup could easily get me into not only surface salvage play, but I could get into skimmer kill missions with an interesting twist. Hover my Keelback a bit away, then drop into a Taipan fighter and start blasting the skimmers in a super nimble ship. Then drop into the SRV for any salvage or beacons to scan.
Looking forward to giving it a try! I'm mostly combat oriented in Open by preference. The irony of chasing Engineer mods to fulfill that end is I will have to engage in a bunch of activities I normally will ignore, eg. mining, trading, just to acquire the resources needed for modding. Speaking of trading, how is your Keelback in terms of shield strength and boost speed ? My Asp trader is a bit of a slowpoke after the giddy pace of my Cobra. The quality of AI interdictions after Engineers is on a whole new level and while I can manage evasion without too much problems, some more speed and shield would be nice. There had been a few close calls with the new AI.

Another question if I may.
Because I bought into the beta today do I now have beta access every time or is it just for 2.2?
Do you think that changing that station to an outpost will remain when 2.2 gets a full release? Have they done this sort of thing before? I can't see a reason for it tbh.

The store page says: The Elite Dangerous: Horizons Beta Upgrade Pass grants access to all remaining closed betas released as part of the Elite Dangerous: Horizons season of expansions. Available now for PC. So I'd guess that'll include betas for 2.2, plus 2.3, and 2.4 when they are out. Harry, the Keelback is boosting to just about 300m/s, and shields with a single booster are good for 149MJ. I put a Grade 1 "Augmented Resistance" booster mod on, too, gave about 5%-6% resistance addition for each type. The shield is kinda weak, but when I mine, I'll dump all my cargo if a pirate asks. It was free, and I can re-scoop whatever they don't take. So probably safe enough? It's also got chafe and point defenses mounted, if I need to try to run. I should be able to head out for a quick mining session in just a few moments. So I'll report back.

Ok, good results on my first Keelback mining run. Left with 50 limpets in a 64 ton cargo hold, mined for 30 minutes. Returned with 12 limpets remaining. Sold my mined goods for $1,070,000 Cr on the local market.
Using dual C2 mining lasers did burn through the weapons capacitor pretty quick (maybe 3 or 4 seconds). I turned off the power to one of them, and the single C2 mining laser could go for nearly a full asteroid at a time. Still faster than my dual collector limpets could rake in the fragments.
Handling is very nice in the blue zone. With 4 pips to ENG while prospecting, 50% throttle was about 104m/s... exactly where I liked it from my old Python days.
Very pleased.
Oh, no pirates dropped by. So that's still to come.

I was hoping I can soup up the Keelback to be a zippy hauler. I guess I'll just have to grind long and hard for those Grade 5 mods

The extra zip seems to be in the handling. In the blue zone, it's got a pretty nice handling. Useful when prospecting asteroids.

Wow! That was a good haul. I have gone back and forth on mining. Was going to build an ASP miner (or temporarily reconfigure my current ASP) but I decided to build a relatively cheap T-6 based miner. Works pretty well, but, unless I managed to fulfill some contracts or luck into a lot of PAINITE, I was hardly making that much in an hour much less 30 min!! I think mine had 56 tons of cargo space. Looks like you collected at most 52 tons of stuff at an AVERAGE price of 20K/ton. Must have been a lot of high ticket stuff (Painite/Palladium/PLatinum/Ice Diamonds) to get that price per ton!!

Yes, IIRC there were 10 tons of it Painite, which sold for about $600k of the total. The rest has mostly Platinum and Palladium, with a few tons of other stuff mixed in. BTW, I'm experimenting with a few engineer mods. First, the Class 3 Power Distributor is a bit weak for dual C2 mining lasers. It's barely able to mange 6 seconds before depletion. So I installed a Grade 1 Weapon Focus mod, and it's good for 8 seconds now. The Grade 3 mod should be good for 10 seconds, but I've not had time to play with it. Also installed a Grade 3 Dirty Drives mod, and am now good for 220m/s at 4 pips, and boosting to a touch over 350m/s. It doesn't like to stop from those speeds!

I did a level 1 upgrade to my Vulture C3 Multicannon, but when I went back for the Level 2 upgrade it sucked and I reversed it. I picked the OVERCHARGED CANNON but with the Level 2 Upgrade, the Damage and DPS actually went DOWN though heat and power use improved. Never noticed the Multicannons being terribly heat generating or power using, so it was a big long wasted trip.

Heat is a problem on the Keelback as I've got it configured. Thrusters are a major sources, especially modded. Plus add the dual C2 mining lasers.
I'm not sure I'll be able to do any shield generator "resistive" mods without too much more heat. But on a dedicated SRV/SLF build, they should work OK.

25% increase to FSD jump range boost just from flying into the Plasma Cone of a Pulsar and White Dwarf ? Wow ! Bigger than that, now. They've changed white dwarf stars to a 50% boost, and neutron stars to a 300% boost. The reason why was initially due to a bug, which made the 25% they planned into a 250% boost. Well a few players pointed out that with a boost of that scale, you could make use of the widely spaced neutron stars to make a sort of "highway" giving large jumps between them. There's a risk of some damage, but AFMU can probably handle most of that. I look forward to giving it a try!

... a 25% boost (as is apparently planned for release) ... I think that video and the 25% number is old. I saw Michael Brookes post that the final boost numbers will be 50% for white dwarves, and 300% for neutron stars. I'll try to find and link his post here. EDIT: Here's his post: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread...l=1#post4603853
