Go to Chrome.google.com and install the latest version from there. If it goes away, then it was.

I got a fake pop-up yesterday pushing hard for me to update my flash on a machine at work which was already up-to-date. The pop-up appeared after an untypical cookie blizzard on a science news website, and it had a fake window (whose contents I forget), which had a close x-button in the upper right corner which was clearly part of a jpeg image which comprised the whole window, and was non-functional. The thing then started a download which I noted was not from the Adobe website. It didn't seem able to launch itself, the download manager intercepted and asked where to save, I let it write to a folder, then inspected its properties. I've forgotten the website it came from (that shows in the download manager) but the properties said it was an executable zip made by Inno (a free executable zip making package) and had the name something like pacheseno v3.7 - after looking through it, and determining that it no doubt would have done something nasty if I'd let it run, i deleted it, so I don't remember the exact spelling, but google kept suggesting pokemon and pachinko when i tried a search for it. I actually got a hit for it on a malware patrol site, it seemsit was brand new, no one had determined what nastiness it generates yet.

If you're on windows or OSX I remember there's an update check on the "about" section of google chrome. If on any linux distro, the system update should be updating chrome from the sources.list.d folder entry. Either way, there are safer ways to update and verify your browser.
On the note of dangerous files. TWICE I've visited SimHQ and had system warnings about files (to be downloaded) asking for permission. I should've saved the screenshot but I was so busy both cases that I just let the system prevent it.

I'm no grammar Nazi by a long shot, but what the heck do you have against paragraphs?

Look for me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Tic Toc...or anywhere you may frequent, besides SimHq, on the Global Scam Net. Aka, the internet. I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

If they're not placed there by the system, why the compulsive carriage returns long before necessary? The Jedi Master I'm not the only one. I just post in another forum where there are lots of images posted, and text ends up stretching across the page if you don't actively format it. With a widescreen monitor, that is really annoying, especially after decades of reading 80 character text. So I format to a comfortable length, by habit, hitting return when the line seems long enough to be read comfortably. And I usually use paragraphs, but the content of the previous post seemed to be all one paragraph; it only had like six sentences, which I dashed off in one go. I suppose I could have divided it if I'd noticed how long it was getting.
