I didn't buy beta access, primarily because my internet connection is not the fastest for these large downloads.
But I'm eager to see the test reports, and eventually get my hands on 2.2!

I haven't touched Engineers and apart from trying out the SRV once or twice no longer outfit one any more.I like doing what I do.I highly doubt I'll use any of the new features in 2.2 either.

DL speed is saying, I can test the beta in about 3 days(bought the premium beta back then)... Since I`m playing only for a few weeks after a long pause, I even haven`t discovered all new things fom Engineers, but reading the patch notes, there are a few things I might like. I`m mostly an explorer, so I like the improvements on the bodies, vulcanism, Geysirs, jets on neutron stars etc, might make the universe a little more lively. @ Harry, you should try the SRVs, it`s really fun driving around.

Seen all those youtube. Not really interested. Just not my thing. I need to drive one soon though not because I want to but because surface option is the only way to acquire certain materials to craft some Engineer mods. If there was an alternative.........

That list is mostly 'under the hood' features if personal preferences (such as mine) is to make enough quick money so I no longer have to worry about funds....ever....and then switch over to pimping up my ships with mods so I can go looking for trouble and blow sh!t up in Open, preferably another human player. I have nothced bunch of dead Commanders pre-Engineers, including a couple of who came trying to collect me for bounty but post-Enginneers, the playing field is a little different with mods. Unlike Mr Blastman, who role-play a pirate, I'm not even interested in your cargo. I just want to flat out kill you just because. I have seen Grade 5 modded Thrusters get an Asp up to 550m/s. Imagine that baby with six gun ports clustered on the nose with enginner enhanced multicannons and railguns. So yeah, Patch 2.2 and its fumaroles, geological features etc etc, don't mean didley to my objectives. Maybe ship launched fighters but jury's out on how viable an NPC hireling

So far, looking good on the beta front for my interests.
The Beluga has a smaller fuel tank than I'd hoped, but workable.

The Beluga has a smaller fuel tank than I'd hoped, but workable. I commented above that the Beluga launched in beta with a 32 ton fuel tank, that was drained by a Class 7 FSD in 2 or 3 jumps. Happily, today it was stated that it'll be re-balanced with a 128 ton internal fuel tank. Exactly what a long range cruiser needs. The Orca is also getting an upgrade to a 32 ton fuel tank, up from 16 tons.

Got about 50 "First Discoveries" to my credit so if you come across one of them make sure to wave.
What equipment do you need for discovery besides an ADS ? I have not been out of the bubble but been to plenty of systems discovered by others. I get the usual 'Discovered 'X number' Objects when I activate the ADS but even after that many of the planetary bodies return a tag of 'Unexplored'. Is there some method to turn them to 'Explored' ? Surface scanner ??

Yes exactly. You also need the surface scanner and, once you sell it, your name is immortalized in the stars forever. Or at least till a server crash!
EDIT: I am having 2nd thoughts about the above statement. With either the ADS, IDS, and BDS, if you get close enough you do a more advanced scan automatically - more detailed then the "honk." I now believe (based on doing it with stars) that this may be good enough for a "Discovered by..." Or maybe the Surface scanner (which is also automatic when close enough) is required in addition? adlabs? Your our resident DWE guy.

Regarding ship-launched fighters.
As a non-combat player (thus far), I had limited interest for the most part. Best I could imagine would be outfitting my Type-9 as a miner, with a fighter bay to fly defense, buying me time to jump out of the rings in case of trouble.
But I did something off-beat last night...
Since I sold my Python miner, I've missed mining, I've missed the medium landing pad. I've missed grabbing those 40-60 ton cargo missions to outposts. But I don't want to get into a Python again, not yet. Maybe a Type-6? Asp Explorer?
No... I try the Keelback. And wow! Handling feels great in the "zone", and it outfits for a 64 ton miner with dual collectors and 6 bins. Even with the Military Grade armor, still good for 22LY jumps. Great for half-hour bursts of mining play. She's all outfitted and has 50 limpets aboard, can't wait for time to get out there on my first trip.
So then, back to the ship-launched fighters. The Keelback can carry one. I am thinking the Keelback may open up an interesting planet surface play option.
Load it up with a heavy duty 5A shield tank + boosters, a Class 5 fighter hanger, a Class 2 SRV hanger, and some cargo space.
Now that setup could easily get me into not only surface salvage play, but I could get into skimmer kill missions with an interesting twist. Hover my Keelback a bit away, then drop into a Taipan fighter and start blasting the skimmers in a super nimble ship. Then drop into the SRV for any salvage or beacons to scan.
Looking forward to giving it a try!

Or maybe the Surface scanner (which is also automatic when close enough) This! The more massive a body is, the farer out the scan begins, ranges from around 5,000 ls for stars to less than 10 ls when scanning a snowball (which of course isn`t recommended `cause of the low pay).

Is this normal? My saved game state has reverted to a much earlier time. My Asp is now armed (I removed the weapons at least a week ago) and my Imperial Clipper is now back in my ship list (I sold it a while back).
Also, they have scuppered my rather lucrative T-9 gold run by changing the supplying station to an Outpost. What's the largest cargo capacity of an Outpost capable ship? Not happy about that.
