Okay, I may be imagining this, but does anyone else think that the crescendo of the Warhammer 40K: Space Marine theme for Captain Titus and that of the Dark Knight Rises bears similarity?

Very slight almost subtle but I get your point. I am a big soundtrack (movies and games) buff and have witness similar issues. Here are some:
In this case it's the same composer and most likely intentional to use some segments to create new scores-
MOVIE: THE THIN RED LINE - "Journey to the Line" (Hans Zimmer)
MOVIE: PEARL HARBOR - "Tennessee"
Here is another example of two different composers -
MOVIE: INK - "John's Walk" (Jamin Winans)
and this composer used the same (similar melody to the previous) in two movies (maybe movie producers ran out of money to create new scores)!
MOVIE: KICKASS - "Adagio in D Minor" (John Murphy)
MOVIE: SUNSHINE - "Adagio in D Minor" (John Murphy)
I could go on and on with this but you get the idea. It happens also with other styles of music from Rock, Rap, Classical, Country, etc. Good to know that there are others that enjoy soundtrack music as I do.
I couldn't really picture Hansen Zimmer playing Warhammer.

Just listen to the soundtrack for Star Trek II Wrath of Khan and then Aliens. There are a ton of similarities but at least both scores are by the same composer.

You'll find a million similarities. Most composers will just say it was an accident, in reality most composers were just influenced by other songs or composers.
Compare both of the original tracks to the Daft Punk TRON soundtrack and you'll find that the similarities are too strong to be ignored. I'd bet money that someone copied part of the TRON soundtrack (Or perhaps vice versa, if Tron was released later).
Listen from about 1:10 to hear a nearly exact copy of the first video.

Oh, it's definitely a trait of composers to copy their own work. However, it's not done deliberately, rather they have certain techniques that will lead to similar notes for similar situations.
In John Williams' vast library of cases you will notice films from around the same period will sound similar. For instance, if you have the expanded versions of the Superman and Raiders of the Lost Ark scores (not the short ones released then, the complete scores released in the 21st century) you'll notice many similarities in some of the cues. However, there is little similarity between Raiders and Crystal Skull aside from the reuse of a few themes. Yet there are similarities between Crystal Skull and Revenge of the Sith. Also between Jurassic Park and Phantom Menace.
