Gents, There is a gap in DCS, early MiGs! The MiG-15/F-86 are outstanding in DCS. I would hope there would be a follow up on these great planes. The MiG-17F in my humble opinion would be an outstanding success with the DCS fans. I believe that a reputable company would see a lot of first day purchases with a MiG-17F. While I would love to see a full switch MiG-19, its use is limited and therefore might not get the interest the '17 would. While the MiG-15 was only relevant for a small amount of time, its successor was used until the 70s! Just about anyone who bought arms from Russia flew it. This aircraft was in every conflict in the Middle East and Vietnam as well as Africa. It covers a lot of history. While the '19 and '21 were getting all the glory, the '17 was doing all the donkey work. Typical of Soviet design, it is light, nimble and in proper hands deadly. It is a MiG-15++. So I guess my question here is two fold; Who in the community would buy a MiG-17 from Leatherneck, Belsimtek or Razbam? My second question: Are there any plans from Developers on these subjects?

Considering we have the MiG-15 and 21, I don't think the 17 justifies the moniker "early" like a MiG-9 or 3 would. I've flown them all in SF and it mostly feels like a 15 with more thrust after all. However, given its abilities in Falcon, I would say we need a MiG-19 so we can dominate the skies and shoot down anything, anywhere, anytime with little effort. The Jedi Master

We don't have any Russian WWII birds in DCS, just German and American (although Spit is coming) so I don't think it's wrong to make one. The problem with the 17 is it has no peers. It outclasses the F-86 and P-51 and is outclassed by all the other fighter jets, except perhaps the 21 on a bad day. Sure, it can go against Su-25s and A-10s, but who would do that? The Jedi Master

I think they are having a hard time getting a hold of any good documentation of WWII era Russian birds.

I have to agree with you here. Armed with 30mm x 2 and on the very raged edge of performance the '19 is the Hot Rod. I thinks in Guns only matches the F-5 would be outmatched. Hell, I think the Eagle would find it a handful. But we are just dreaming. They will never make one. There was a mod around but one of the patches killed it. Again a first day buy if Leatherneck, Belsimtek or Razbam made it. With Razbam announcing development of the Mirage III, I thinks the time is ripe for some good opponents. The MiG-3 was an interesting bird but not hugely successful. I would much rather see a Yak-9UTI or La-9 to use in Korea scenerios. Yak9 vs P-51=FUN! Again these aircraft offer a very limited time when they ruled the skys. The MiG-17 covers a lot of years and conflicts.

I can see it now, MiG-19s intercept a formation of bombers but they are attacked by F-8s. EPIC!

We'll need some appropriate bombers then. B-47? B-58! The Jedi Master
