How about favorite space combat games or in games?

My all-time favorite has to be: Freespace 2

Tie Fighter comes in as a close second.

In time invested I would have to say Privateer.E:D is probably a close second although I did put serious hours into X-Wing back in the day.

Bridge Commander
Klingon Academy
Freespace 1 (almost no one remembers it after FS2, but it was good at the time)

Damn, I can't believe I forgot about Klingon Academy. It was great how Interplay was actually able to get David Warner and Christopher Plummer to reprise their roles from ST VI.

Whatever happened to Starshatter? Was supposed to be the Falcon 4 of space games, then suddenly....*poof*, gone from the radar (at least mine).

Star Wars Empire at War. Cinematic camera ftw. My favorite.
Nexus the Jupiter Incident. Top notch capital ship battles with specialized weapons, component targeting etc. Voice work is ok, but poorly written. The action is among the best.
Homeworld 2, now remastered, although I suck at it.
Battlefleet Gothic Armada. Small scale, RTS but big ships in the Warhammer universe. Well done, fully voiced.
Gratuitous Space Battles...total eye candy. Customize ships, set orders and send them off to battle. More eye candy than you can watch, since once they go, they're on their own based on your orders. If only it was 3D with a replay function! Reminds me of being a kid and drawing out space battles with friends.
Star Trek Bridge Commander. Really cool experience in the captain's perspective in the ship ON the bridge giving orders. It's dated though.
Star Hammer: The Vanguard Prophecy...I don't have a lot of time in it yet, but it's a very playable TBS combat game. I just wish it was voiced. Fun gameplay.

Freespace 2 and Rogue Squadron were both great for the cockpit experience, but IMO the best space combat experience is one you can see all that's going on. Can't remember which Wing Commander I had, but it was excellent. One of the later ones.
Colony Wars on the old PS1 was a lot of fun. My favorite cockpit experience, but it's too dated now.

Kind of a newer genre, the small scale objective based MP games:
Fractured Space is pretty fun, and with a good team, it's very tactical. That's rare though.
Up coming Dreadnaught is a similar game, but a variety of environments and should be really good.

Bridge Cmdr was heavily modded. I never tried any, but some worked on visuals and some added whole fleets.

Ice Cold in Alex or Eating in ...
X-Wing series
Wing Commander 3
Privateer 2: The Darkening - never finished it as it kept crashing on the last mission, most frustrating!
I war I & II - still got, and use my I War 1 tote bag.

One that I wanted to work was Battlecruiser 3000AD but never got further than the menu as it kept crashing, if it wasn't for the fact it was a freebie I would have demanded my money back. WC3 was also in the same package and at least it ran smile

Freespace 2 was my all-time favorite and Tie Fighter with its expansions was a very close second.

I'd love to see a remake of the X-Wing and Tie Fighter series. They were terrific fun.

Great show.

Independence War was excellent. Never forget the mission activating the big orbital lasers before the Indies arrive.

Trivia: The guys who created that show (Glenn Morgan & James Wong) were also major writers and producers on the X-Files.
