I have an older gaming PC and now have a problem with it.
When I power up the monitor never gets any thing on it. I have checked the monitor with another PC and it is fine.
When I do power up I get a single beep followed by either two very quick beeps or a wavering peep. It is hard to describe. It only happens once and that is it. I even tried booting up with a UBUNTU disk but even with that I did not get anything on the monitor.

specs:
Mother Board: EVGA 680i A1
CPU: Intel QX6700 EE (Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz)
Memory: 4GB Corsair Dominator xms2 DDR2 1066MHz
Voltage 2.1v, timing 5-5-5-15, 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM
with Heat Spreader

Video Card:
EVGA GeForce GTX 650 02G-P4-2653-KR Video Card - 2GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0(x16), 1x Dual-link DVI-D, 1x Dual-link DVI-I, 1x Mini-HDMI, DirectX 11, Superclocked, Dual-Slot, Model#:02G-P4-2653-KR

Video card gone to retirement? Or something wrong with the motherboard? Does your motherboard have some LEDs or something that will help you diagnose a fault? Best to consult your mobo manual for more details.

Maybe try your GPU on another PC and see if it works. Then you've ruled out your monitor and GPU so the fault will be with the mobo.

long steady beep usually means PCIe Power... if GPU requires 6/8 pin and doesnt have it, then it will beeeeeeep.

Just a short beep and then two tiny beeps and that is it. I will see if I can find the error code and what the mb manual says.

Which mainboard model?

1 long 2 short usually links to graphics card/vga initialization failure.

Hi Uriah,
I had that a while ago with my nvidea card and it was the PSU that the 12v rail had died on.

Check on the connector(s) on the graphics card between yellow and black - it should be showing 12 volts.

Hope this helps,

Andy

Things ended well. I took out that video card and replaced it with a cheap new one. Just $30. So it worked.
Then I was too curious to let things be. So I took it out and put back in the old one. It worked. Weird but sometimes computers are just weird.

This all started because I picked up at an estate sale a Dell Inspiron 580 for $10. It had one bad memory card and no hard drive. I bought the needed memory card and put in the hard drive and tried to install Ubuntu but no luck. So I took out the hard drive and put it in my old gaming computer to format it and then I installed Ubuntu on a thumb drive and proved that it workd. Back to the Dell and no go. The story gets longer but you get the point.

Anyway, I am ahead by having Ubuntu on a thumb drive and my old gaming PC works fine.

i always use an ubuntu bootable usb or cdrw when I get trashed or firesaled systems,

I refuse to deal with the OS corruption present on 90% of them, just easier to boot, get a hardware picture, copy any files to review, wipe drive, replace.

Good advice SkateZilla. Thank you.

In the case of the PC I picked up where I had to give it a hard drive I suspect something wrong with the BIOS.
I can bring up the boot up screen where you can make all sorts of settings but I get only get so far either trying to install Windows or run from the Ubuntu on the thumb drive. I think I might try installing Windows on that hard drive on a working PC and then put that drive in the Dell I picket up. I have no idea if that is a valid idea to pursue or not.
