I am really tired of cable and lately have been joining online streaming services. Now trying Hulu, Amazon and have had Netflix for ever. Thinking of dumping cable tv and just sticking with the three services I now have.

Question is - what is your favorite and why - so maybe I can try another one.

I have

Netflix Premium (to get 4K content) $11.99
Hulu no commercials $11.99 (so worth the extra bucks)
Amazon (4K content included) $8.25
+ free over the air HD network channels
= $32.23 per month = no brainer

if you are going to go with just two I would do Netflix and Hulu (they have so much content to dig into)

I'm really interested in this thread Warbirds.

I have had DirectTV for the past 20 years, and pay almost a hundred bucks a month for service (which is outstanding), with $5 going for extra HD movie channels, MGM, Sony, HDNet, Smithsonian, and a couple more channels. I have no problem with the reception, or personal service when you call them. They're good.

But, I really don't find much on the general list (package) of TV channels that is worth watching anymore. A few, but no more than 8-10 channels, I like TCM, but Hollywood just doesn't put out quality stuff anymore. I'm thinking like you, I could possibly get a better deal from the internet, I pick the movies I want to watch from a list, instead of having them chosen for me.

Would my hundred bucks get me more good movies online?

The draw back would be my DSL connection....limited at about 6-7 Mbps.
Could I D/L them and watch them later?
How does that all work?.....I'm interested.

This should be an interesting thread smile

Unless you go for the 4k service, the quality from standard is roughly equilevent to a DVD so it won't impact your net traffic. I check my net traffic and it's usually peaks at 150 kbps.

D/L to watch later is pretty much illegal since hackers can take the stored material and bootleg it.

Whichever one I formerly subscribed to and gives me a free month to "try" again. yep

Currently watching Hulu no commercials for two more weeks for free, and then netflix want's to give me a free month.

Luckily I have found other stuff to do besides watch hours of movies and TV shows as I really don't have the disposable income to justify paying for either.

I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

The free trials really help and are what got me hooked on the three I have now, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon. Each have their top shows that set the hook. Amazon has "The Man From High Castle", Netflix has several "Orange is the New Black" is only one of their great original programs and Hulu has "11.22.63". Plus all the old tv shows and movies you forgot to see or did not have time to watch or go see when they first aired or came to your local movie house.

Netflix. I'm late to the party, only have had it since Christmas. (And only because my 14 yr old son set it up)

Netflix and Amazon.

If I only had one to take it would be Netflix because of the content and ability to rent movies to stream. Netflix really should be able to give that option.

Also be sure to check what just internet service will cost you without the TV bundle as it will probably be higher.

Every once in a while you can fill in movies that are not included on the streaming service subscriptions via Red Box or even a rental from the streaming services themselves.

Also remember to check when a family member who still has cable TV services is coming to visit, they can use their login and watch content from the TV channel apps that the networks provide (so many channels have their own apps). Comcast and Fios (and others) also have their own online portals to access a lot of content.

Also for when your family member is not visiting find one that has a second (or third) cable box that does not get used much (or pay for the additional box rental yourself - usually $7-10) and attach a Sling TV or similar device that allows you access to all the content (including use of the DVR) wherever you have internet access.

If they have Dish Network have them bump up to the Hopper and they make use of Dish Anywhere - http://www.dish.com/dish-anywhere/

I have none but the other day I discovered you can rent movies in Youtube. I'm not a movie watcher, so paying 2 bucks to watch an 80's movie once in a while is the perfect arrangement for me. Newer movies go for a little more money but still, no monthly service or anything like that. Me likes.

@Murphy;
I have abysmal rural broadband here. About 1.4Mbps on a good day, but I can still stream Netflix and Amazon with reasonable viewing quality though very pixelated for the first few minutes.

Thanks BD...it's interesting to know I have the option.
Mine is never below 6 Mbps.

Yeah, living in the sticks does have this drawback..... wink

Happy birthday!

We sub to netflix, streaming only now.
Amazon, but only due to being Prime members, not for the streaming. We use it for access to some shows before they're released by other digital means. No other way to see them.
Also Youtube Red. I've got several really good youtube channels I like and watch nightly on the bedroom tv. I did Red since the ads had a tendency to crash the tv app and one of the perks of Red is getting rid of ads. I can't help but wonder if it's by design, but I'm paranoid. Still, it's worth it for amount of viewing I do on there and no more crashing.

I subscribe to:

- Netflix
- HBO Nordic (their streaming service in Scandinavia)

Amazon prime, Hulu and all such are not available here frown

Also, our Netflix content is much smaller than in the US; because of distributer rights.
