I checked my GPU and CPU performance and in fact it's not maxing them at all, far from it, and the Vive performance tools don't show skipped frame either, instead it looks like it's not syncing at the correct fps - and this part is not necessarily surprising as I had issues with non-direct mode and steamVR in the past where it did exactly that because of some bugs where the monitor setting interfere with the hmd. I guess I'll have to wait for when they'll start using direct mode properly
Sorry to hear that. I do remember the first time I tried the vive with BoS it was a slide show. I don't remember what I did that changed it but keep at it. I do remember I messed around with settings that really messed things up. I had to reinstall the vive software and the steam client. If you go that route maybe reinstall vive, reinstall steam then reinstall BoS. I'm hoping the next patch will be all about VR implementation and not just adding aircraft to make money.
I have 980ti. My NVidia inspector and NVidia control panel are at default for BoS. Maybe reset those to default and work up from there?

I've sort of done all of that already: I re-installed IL2 for the 1st time in a year+ after the VR update, so that was fresh. Last weekend I also finally made the shift from Win 7 to Win 10 which I had installed as a dual boot install months ago, so gpu drivers and game profiles are fresh (not to mention I updated to new drivers last week) and I also only installed steam on the win 10 boot last week, so that's brand new too. I'll tinker a bit more though - as I mentioned in the olden non-direct mode days of steamVR I had similar issues with a bug in steamVR and Elite Dangerous in which the monitor settings would trigger a wrong sync in my Oculus DK2 so that it was displaying at 15fps, but changing monitor to other resolutions and Hz would sometime result in the proper vsync for the DK2 - I was assuming the same was happening here, but maybe not if you went from judder to no judder.

I'll experiment some more during weekend times anyway. The devs have mentioned performance improvements in the next update in their last DD so here's some hoping that they are optimizing things for VR.

What I'm finding in my games is that in the vive the head tracking or rotation has a bit of a judder. Not in games specifically designed for it, like lucky's tale or the various Steam games. Just games like Warthunder or Dirt Rally.

I don't know if it's FPS related or what, but the fps of the game seems completely smooth. To be honest I'm ok with it and it doesn't affect my gameplay, I just don't know what it's related to at all.

Head tracking judder is not good and shouldn't be happening. Most the games I'm running have extra smooth head tracking, and that includes War Thunder (but I had to adjust setting down a bit). That's with a i7 3930K @4.2Ghz and a GTX 980. IL2 BOS is so far the worst head tracking judder I've experienced and I still have no solution for it. I still suspect I'm experiencing an infamous bug where the old non-direct mode of steamVR gets into a wrong refresh rate, something that occurred in the past when using 3D monitors and their non-standard refresh rates. Anyway, I'll know soon if it's performance related only as I'll have someone lend me a GXT 1080 next week to test that.

I've fixed it with some sort of settings I wish I could recall.

So, I'm itching to pull the trigger on IL2, but it's only worthwhile to me if the VR support works. SO that being said, is it playable in VR?

I think I'm going to hold off until Kuban comes out and the VR is 100% supported. Thanks for the info!

So of course I bought it anyway because I can't help it.

First impressions are so-so, in the sense that it's not 100% smooth, and the UI is a bit annoying. The headtracking is also just a tiny bit delayed, enough to actually give me motion sickness (And I can play E:D for hours no problem)

However flying the HE-111 is just as awesome as I thought it would be, and once I get the frame rate working properly, or Kuban comes out, it's going to be awesome. Also, manning the turrets is super fun!

I finally got to test it in VR with a GTX 1080 and even then it's not smooth. There's a mix of lag in the head movement and occasional judder (only really appears during head rotation) - it's definitely not playable like that - I'm pretty much immune to vr sickness when everything is smooth, but with the tracking delays and occasional judder you can't scan the horizon and not develop nausea. I have IL2 BoS but I haven't purchased anything else yet and would like to see them release proper VR first (so I'll have to wait for after dx11 support I guess) - I already paid for vr support back in BoS and wouldn't like to buy yet another product just to see support cancelled yet again.

Who are 1CGS blaming for their inability to get it working this time?

Geez Bongo, whatthehell are you doing? You KNOW that after a comment like that, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from the BoS forum will come charging in here to trash the place! ar15 attack

Have a bit mercy with Bongo. Must be hard for him to see his so deeply hated devs improving BoS in such a great pace.
With DX11 end of the year and full VR support a month later, it will be hard for him to find something to rage biggrin

Why are "hate" words the first response?
