Apologies for the long silence, but I have been truly immersed in developing and testing ideas for a new challenge that I discussed with some of you here a few weeks ago. I am now convinced that RiR is the way to go and I'm hoping that some of you who have thus far relied upon some or all of the flying and combat aides will take the radical step of ditching them for this challenge (assuming I ever manage to put it all together!).
The theme I am developing uses all of the input I received from folks previously, and will focus on the wax and wane of the "Fokker Scourge" during the first half of 1916. I envisage this being a two-part campaign, with the first half featuring the EIII versus the N10 and the second half the EIV versus the Bristol Scout, so the add-on packs will be required, as will WOFF3, since there are some key features in there that are needed to make the concept work properly. The idea would be that WOFFers form two teams, switching sides for the second phase, so that we get to experience both sides. Representing the Central Powers, especially in phase 2, will be tougher - perfect for those WOFFers that want a more rigorous challenge.
As those involved in the DiD Centenary campaign already know, the early war is much quieter in the air, but when flying RiR, I still find it extremely immersive. When things do "happen" there's an incredible sense of excitement. I'm also finding that the daily job of flying the missions without aides makes one concentrate much harder on where one is and what is going on around. Little details reveal themselves and the delights of WOFF expand even more! One example: accompanying a couple of BE2Cs on a bombing run, I lost them in bad weather and decided to make my way to the target anyhow, where I proceeeded to hang around. After about 15 min of circling I suddenly heard the whine of bombs falling and I looked down to see the target railyard in flames... our boys had finally arrived to complete the job!
Sound is everything in RiR (fantastic job, Creaghorn!). Often it's the sound of the Eindecker that alerts me to its presence well before I actually catch sight of it (there's a tip worth knowing!)
Anyhow, I will continue to work on this and will update everyone as I get closer to finishing up.
Cheers, all!
H

Often it's the sound of the Eindecker that alerts me to its presence well before I actually catch sight of it (there's a tip worth knowing!) It sounds like a snake hissing in the distance! My favorite (and sometimes most hated) sound in WOFF Well done, Creaghorn!
Dogfighting is what you do "after" you drop your bombs and blow something up! Can you say "JABO!"

I'll have WOFF 3 some day when it comes out on a DISK, or I find a better internet situation!
Until then I do "2" only.

Until then I do "2" only. That's too bad CW3SF I'm just not sure that you could replicate the setup I'm putting together for RiR with WOFF2, but perhaps there's way... let me ponder it a bit. Have you tried / do you use the Ace Redux mod? H

Real life is interfering with my WOFFing too much right now, but thanks for the invitation! I've had fun with some of Rick's and Olham's challenges in the past...they're a lot of fun. Good luck with it! Cheers!
