Ordered! Now I'll just wait for the postman... you wont be sorry. its a whole new game and experience. You should also try out BoS. Even though VR in BoS is in its early development I find it a much better experience than DCS. Because of the limited resolution of VR one can see tracers better in Bos, and with the "Hollywood" effects of Bos the smoke helps a great deal with aiming. My gunnery is so much better with VR than with tracker. I don't know when BoS will implement OR but the Vive is pretty damn good for early implementation.
DCS Kickstarter Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable." Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."

Yeah, I had trouble getting it to work with BoS and others still do. It's an early build but once you get it working it's pretty damn good. P3D also. I can't go back to a flat monitor now.

I got the vive yesterday and today I finally got around to playing DCS with it. WOW just wow. Trackir is obsolete, my monitor is obsolete. It really is a game changer. I wish I could adequately express the immersion, it's just unbelievable. Maybe it's the fact that it really feels like one is in an airplane that the textures of the cockpits now look cartoonie, it's that convincing. That is the only drawback I got from the experience. If you get a chance to try it out make sure you have the money to buy it because I guarantee once you try it you'll want one. Just WOW I find the Mig-15's, and both german ww2 planes cockpits' textures cartoony even without VR. Do you have the 21?

Guys, I have been watching this post since day one. Last week I could not take it anymore. I am awaiting delivery of a OC CV1. CAVCPT, thank you for your unbiased and honest review. And to the rest of you who just cost me 600 dollars A wise person once wrote: If someone tells you something, it might be true. When everyone tells you the same thing, It is TRUE. I believe this will be a worthwhile investment. For about the price of small week's vacation I will possess the immersion to make DCS a completely new experience. I believe I will still use my monitor a lot. Mission making and some training will need 2D. I also believe we will be hit with a better product next year making the current gen obsolete. However, VR had to start somewhere! Im happy to finally get off my butt and support this. I wanted a Vive, but I could not justify the price tag. Maybe when the second or third gen comes around.. Hey Mr Postman.... whoa whoa whoa Mr Postmaaaan! I will check in after I do some testing.

ALL,
So glad this turned out to be a worthwhile post and for those that recently took the plunge you will not be disappointed. The new F-5 looks particularly good and the cockpit is very clear and readable with pixels set at about 1.5.
The new VR additions to DCS Nevada have me playing on that side of the world this week and the open expanses of Nevada really add a sense of "holy crap" to your VR flying experiences. On a separate but related note I purchased the FlyInside application for Prepar3D and it is a flawless program for experiencing VR on the civilian sim side.
I took a very moody flight yesterday evening from Northern California up along the coast to Oregon and found much like DCS, I'm a considerably better pilot in VR given the added sense of situational awareness.
Great times. Great investment. The Army is sending me away for a month so I'm sure withdrawal is about to set it. Not sure what there is to see in Indianapolis but I'm about to find out.
Cheers,
Stephen

CAVCPT, Have a good trip. Your words are music to my ears. I am in love with the F-5 Tiger since I can remember. I am flying the crap out of it. Today I did some mud-moving practice and for the first time landed bomb on something after I RTFM. And those guns! Ahhhhhh! I am in Qatar waiting on my APO package. Their moto is... 2 Weeks!
Have Fun!

Great write up CAVCAPT! Thanks for sharing what I had hoped VR would be.
Taking leave in a few weeks back in the States. Is OR available in any stores yet or still direct order from vendor? I too live with an APO address in Korea and not always digging the long wait while passing through some not so well tracked high dollar items.

This or OR ? I would say OR. With this I can't see my six, I can't see above etc. If this was a spherical projection (does sit even exist?), than I would say yes. Bu here you still need track IR. BTW, OR gives you some depth perception which you don't have form regular screens/projectors. Depth perception is the big difference. It's huge, massive. With vr one is in a cramped cockpit, everything is around you, it's there, not physically, but the human mind is powerful the feeling is just incredible. A flat monitor is a flat plane with edges, your room is around the plane. Many times I've lost trackir tracking by trying to follow targets, trying to see beyond the monitor edges. There are no edges with vr, there is no room. There is just the cockpit and the theatre.

Order it now from Oculus, it will be a while before its in stores but they've finally got up on their parts supply so they are shipping pretty regular now. You could potentially have it waiting for you when you get back CONUS. We have a contingent going to the DMZ this fall so if you run into challenges getting one in country let me know! MAJ CAV

You at Riley? They've got some pax coming this fall. I work out of Camp Casey in Area 1, with the mobile CCTT, Bradley's of course. BTW, thanks for the offer. I may just take you up on that.

Well, Today was the day. I got it but I am now at work. I am a happy boy because its here but I decided to reload my OS two days ago. This means I have a little bit of issues to iron out before I can start using it fully. Im having to do some research to get my Overclock to work on my Proc. I also got MSI Afterburner and OC'd my Vid card. Nothing like a fresh install to go with fresh hardware. My DCS installs were a bit full of crap too... I decided to start fresh. I will report in after my first experience.... I cant wait to get home. May even call in sick...

Thanks Troll! I am being punished by the Gods! lol. My VR week has turned sour. The experience of flying in VR is OMFG! I cant believe this is happening kind of stuff! However, my VR looks like crap. The only way I know its a Mustang is because he is Silver and I am not. My rig is pretty stout and I just reloaded my OS last week. As a distraction its ok... But its not working to nicely for me. The pit is readable but blurry, its hard to i.d. other planes and such... However, this feeling I get in the pit of my stomach and the adrenaline.... OMG! What settings are you running on the Vid card/ Game Gui?

According to other Oculus user, Oculus software has some settings to improve blurriness which requires machine power.

If you mean pixel density, then yes, if you want to crank it up it will impact frame rates.
