Just finished these two, refreshingly different. The Invisible Library Irene is a professional spy for the mysterious Library, which harvests fiction from different realities. And along with her enigmatic assistant Kai, she's posted to an alternative London. Their mission - to retrieve a dangerous book. But when they arrive, it's already been stolen. London's underground factions seem prepared to fight to the very death to find her book. The Masked City Librarian-spy Irene is working undercover in an alternative London when her assistant Kai goes missing. She discovers he's been kidnapped by the fae faction and the repercussions could be fatal. Not just for Kai, but for whole worlds. Kai's dragon heritage means he has powerful allies, but also powerful enemies in the form of the fae. With this act of aggression, the fae are determined to trigger a war between their people - and the forces of order and chaos themselves. Irene's mission to save Kai and avert Armageddon will take her to a dark, alternate Venice where it's always Carnival. Here Irene will be forced to blackmail, fast talk, and fight. Or face death.

Its time for me to read Shogun again. This will be the 5th time. Every time I read it theres something else to discover, to focus on, that I hadnt noticed before. Layers. And, I reckon Im starting to read it Japanese style. Looking for, and possibly understanding, the HIDDEN meaning. Let me re-phrase that, NOT looking for, but subliminally understanding, the hidden meaning. Make sense? I absolutely love this book. My "Desert Island" book.

The Shogun miniseries is one of my favorite tv miniseries of all time! NOOO, not the Richard Chamberlain one? NOOOOOO. Well, as a standalone thing, I can see that. But, sincerely, read the book. On a scale of 1-10 Miniseries 3 Book 10 When youve read the book you will see what I mean.

I remember watching it. AS a big fan of the book I was drooling while waiting for it to be on the box. I think it would have to be a extremely LOOOOONG film or series to do justice to the book. The DEPTH of it is incredible.

For me it was Yoko Shimada, but Toshiro Mifune was good too. Oh no, I definitely agree with PM. Toshiro Mifune WAS great in that. PM, if its on your to do list, I URGE you to read it. Not everyone likes it, but a man of your intelligence and wit will appreciate the nuances of the Japanese mind games.

I know its August, but my copy of 2017 War With Russia just arrived from the UK today. Its not available yet in the US. It is written by the former NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe and depicts a scenario whereby Russia invades the Baltics in the face of ever weakening NATO resolve. My Janes F18 sim squadron VFA-41 is currently flying a virtual campaign to defend the Baltics from a Russian invasion, so the timing couldn't be better. Check the action at www.VFA-41.net
