First and foremost, I want to make it clear these are not mine. I found them. Somewhere. That's my story and I'm sticking to it due to the NDA.

Very slick menu screens and graphics look fantastic!

Thanks for sharing ( or rather whoever posted them...so thanks to you for passing them on... )

Personally I would love to see a return to WW2 and have their engine used for a more realistic style of game play ( Arma3/Squad ). Still, could be fun.

Cheers

Yeah, I was really disappointed that they chose ww1. Tackling ww1 is not a bad idea in itself, but I'd really see this more a proper Arma like sim, not this sort gen Y-Z version of flashy ww1. Such a pity that they ditched BF 1943 on PC and any other attempt to go back the original - to this day BF 1942 remains my favourite.

Looks awesome!

Truthfully, WWI was kinda flashy... All of the strange camo patterns on aircraft, ships, tanks, and helmets... Not to mention the slower munitions with poorer quality gun powder blasting away. wink

A good video here (not mine):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajd3HSn272U

Personally I am really looking forward to this, if they do a good job with map design and balance like they eventually did for BF4, it could be a lot of fun in conquest large mode (like BF4).

I'd definitely be disabling that annoying b$tching betty voice though "we are losing objective apples" ... "we are losing objective butter"... shaddup!

Pardon my ignorance, but is it hitscan? I don't seem to see any bullet travel modelling in that video.

The sound engine is pretty amazing. Very spatial. Not really getting a ww1 vibe at all from the gameplay in the video though. More like Donbas with bolt action.

My issue with the game is not so much the setting as the subject matter. If a difference can actually be made between those two words...

Thing is, WWI wasn't as much a war as it was a depressing tragedy. It was unlike any conflict before. Not just because it was the first use of combined arms maneuver warfare, but also due to the horrific conditions the troops faced. Then of course you have the pompous, aristocratic, douche-canoe General Staffs (especially the Brits) that not only didn't care for their troops, but simply did not understand the evolution of warfare. See General Alexander 'Butcher of the Somme' Haig for a stellar example of the typical persona that was so pervase at the time. Still can't believe a memorial statue was built in that mans honor. Bloody well makes me nauseous just thinking about it.

As for the game, I do wonder how they're really going to kick the immersion up. Perhaps blurred vision and a spinning screen to represent shell shock and QTE's every 5 minutes where you have to #%&*$# in your haversack because of your rampant dysentery?

I think you're spot on DetCord. And having personally grown up in France near some of the bloody battles of ww1, and having traveled through and to regions where the main front was, I can say that this was such a tragedy that it is still a scar on the land and the people, still haunting them, and mind you those areas don't need a war to be depressing, just the everyday grey sky, cold and wet mud everywhere from September to May makes it a depressing scene to me already (that's why I'm an expat in Oz now)!

This could probably be said about other conflicts and topics that have been adapted to video games, but I don't know, in the case of BF1 I think the contrast between flashy gameplay and depressing historical reality is pushing it too far for me to be able to forget about it and enjoy the game. Maybe. I haven't tried it mind you.

Battlefield has never been very historic, in fact one of my favorite games of the series was BF1942 Secret Weapons of WW2, where I got to fly around in my backpack rocket pack biggrin

If this was historic to WW1 it wouldn't be much fun, sitting in a trench getting shelled, with the occasional charge across no mans land only to get mowed down by machine gun fire. That game already exists, it's called Verdun and it isn't much fun.

To me this looks like BF1942 with a WW1 skin pack, which sounds just fine to me, I just hope they make it near as fun as BF1942 was.

At first I said I wasnt going to get it,

But after hearing opinions of friends and having played some of the Alpha, I may change my mind,

BF4 Left a Sour Taste in my mouth, I had BF3 and every possible DLC, and played it every chance I got, then BF4 happened.

after Fighting with EA/BF4 for a year+, my entire squad bailed and moved on to ArmA III
