Interesting chain of events on this. I guess Stargate was originally planned as a trilogy, but business issues kept that from happening. Now Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin want to finish it, but feel like they need to reboot it because of all the time that has passed.

On the list of Emmerich's future projects, I see he's planning a Midway movie. I think the Battle of Midway is an interesting story, but there isn't much I've seen from Emmerich that I've liked, so I am a bit worried about that.

Yeah, I dont see how throwing away 15 years of SG1/Atlantis/Universe is going to help a reboot,

people see stargate, that's what they associate it with now.

maybe he should just write the endings for the other series shows like MGM promised.

I would NOT watch a Midway film from Emmerich. Think Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor".

I'd want Clint Eastwood or Spielberg making a Midway film.

Spielberg only seems to be able to turn out the exact same movies with different visual themes (and loves his stupid explosions as well). I'd pass on that too wink

Yeah, "Pearl Harbor" was what immediately came to mind for me. I imagine a mix of "Pearl Harbor" and "Independence Day," where he has Roosevelt give a rousing speech on the deck of the Yorktown before taking off in an SBD and dropping the first bomb on the Akagi or something.

Definitely not that abomination! I still can't believe a movie with such an absurd premise got funded in the first place.

It could work, or it could suck. Whichever, I don't care. For instance, the Raimi Spiderman films didn't need to be rebooted. The Garfield ones now definitely do need it, so I'm all for Holland.

It's going to be really tough to replicate the chemistry that James Spader and Kurt Russell had with each other. That's a big reason why the film from 1994 did so well.

Frankly, Michael Shanks and Richard Dean Anderson had better chemistry. But with them working together for 7 straight years plus others here and there that's to be expected.
I mean Spader and Russell didn't really have that many scenes together.

I'd rather see SGU come back. It was killed just when it became interesting.

With his patriotic fervor and lack of knowledge of thermodynamics, his ending will consist of the Soryu getting hit among dogfighting Devastators and Zeroes. The end result will have other four carriers blowing up in proximity due to the massive explosion.

Patriotic fervor? Emmerich is German!

Always loved Stargate the movie. Saw it with my mom in the theater and remember well the sensation that I got when they take you into the stargate for the first time. I even have the action figures from the film. I never could get into the sci-fi series. I think in the right hands a reboot would work. But I like the idea mentioned above of just finishing out their original planned series. It'd be great if they used the same film tech and cameras from the original and bring back some of the original cast. I know in the movie its assumed Kurt Russel's character sacrificed himself but does anyone know if they planned on somehow saving this character? Like I said I am not familiar with the tv series so I don't know if they used his character in that just to create a continuation for the story and to allow them to create that show.

Kurt Russels' O'Neil returned safely to Earth via the Stargate, leaving Spaders' Jackson on Abydos with his new wife. O'Neil lies telling his superiors that Jackson had died on Abydos.

And Spader went on to have a little black list all of his own.

Seen the original Stargate in Plymouth with a young German lady I used to know, really enjoyed the film biggrin
