I'm beginning to wonder if an overclocked 1070 might be more than sufficient since they beat Titan and 980 ti performance by a decent margin. Save myself a few hundred bucks and get one several months sooner than waiting for a 1080 ti. Not one of the Founders Editions though. Something with proper cooling.

Yes that was in Campaign mode, at 2560x1440. I'll run a few more missions for comparison. I had mentioned before, the 980ti is only running 30-40% (I'll check that again) I think WOFF is not taxing the 980ti, the bottleneck is WOFF using the single core of the CPU, which is being maxed out.

Sorry no, my monitor is not 4K.
Eventually, maybe later this year I hope to get two more monitors for a triple screen.

Sorry no, my monitor is not 4K.
Eventually, maybe later this year I hope to get two more monitors for a triple screen. That would be quite an awesome setup, Stache. That will certainly give you a boost to your situational awareness! I'm looking at some of the 3rd party 1080 boards now - all out of stock at time of this posting, of course. Even demand is through the roof or else chip yields for Nvidia are low. Hopefully that settles down soon. MSI GTX 1080 http://www.newegg.com/MSI/BrandStore/ID-1312Gigabyte GTX 1080 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125869I like the whisper quiet idea of the MSI board, but the Gigabyte has the highest base clock rate. I'm not familiar enough with either of these two companies to know if they have good reputations or not. I've always bought EVGA cards until now.

Flew another flight - this time went from St Mihiel to Verdun and back. 4x= 90/100fps 8x = 70/80fps The 980ti has lots of unused capacity. The CPU core has none. Interesting to note at time speed up increases load on GPU / CPU decrease. Screen shots of MSI Afterburner Setup

Stache;
I have been lurking on this thread lately and I noticed your afterburner screen that shows very high usage on CPU thread 8. Any idea what is driving it? Thread 0 is at 94% but thread 8 is maxed!

Hellshade I have the Gigabyte G1 OC'ed 980ti (comes OC from factory). Got it as I had decided on a Gigabyte MB and got gigabyte card to match. I like it a lot, but I have no reference as this is the first dedicated "gaming" system I have had.
I had been using a MSI notebook with a GTX80 - which I do like and got me going with WOFF, but has no comparison to my current system.
Both MSI and Gigabyte have been going for decades, I think both have good reputations. I have never done anything with EVGA
Robert Core Usage: Yes that is WOFF/CFS3. Each time I "go to field", it starts running on one of the cores and pretty much consumes it entirely. It is not the same core each time. See where CPU 5 was maxed, then it dropped off, then CPU 8 was maxed. That was flying a mission, ending the mission, starting a new mission. I am not setting affinity.
Note I still have hyperthreading turned on so there is a bit of activity on CPU 4 also. I did test turning off HT a while ago as I heard it can hurt performance. For me turning off HT did not improve performance, might have made it a tad worse, so I turned it back on.

Nothing seems to excite flightsim fans more, than Graphics cards..yet they seemingly fail to realise..that the CPU (or rather lack of being able to do much with it) is more important ...lol

A strong GPU most certainly makes a difference, especially for those running WOFF 2 or 3, since the new Direct 9 shaders offload much of the graphics processing work from the CPU to the GPU.

So I did some research and the GTX 10X0 line of cards is expected to be in very short supply until July or August. Booo! That said, I happened to spot an EVGA 1080 Founders Edition on Newegg and having read all the reviews earlier, decided to just go for it. Good thing I did. Literally less than 5 minutes after I ordered it, it was back to Out of Stock status. Good grief! I decided the blower style was best since I wanted the hot air expelled from my case and every review I have found says that none of them are really made to overclock anyway. The max is about 2.1 Ghz, most are around 2.0 Ghz, regardless of cooling solution. Hopefully in a few days I will be able to give a review of what kind of performance you can expect in WOFF. Upgrading from my gracefully aging 3 GB GTX 780 ti will probably be a night and day experience, given that this card crushes a Titan. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487243With the EVGA Step Up program, I believe I can trade this in towards a better card in the future. So if for some reason it doesn't quite fit the bill for my performance needs (which I can't really imagine), I can always put it towards an EVGA 1080 ti whenever they start shipping. So it'll either be my final card for awhile or a mighty comfortable "place holder" until I get something better.

Question for the GTX 980 ti owners: What kind of FPS do you get flying over the front in 1918 while at 4X or 8X time compression? Hi Hellshade, would be interesting to know what your FPS numbers are both before and after the new card. And also what percentage you CPU and GPU are running at before and after.
