I have NVidia 980ti and it runs everything at full with no problems although I am still using 1080p monitor, I wouldn't buy 1080 card just yet as the 3rd party cards can get more out of 1080 card for less money than the founders edition. so its worth holding off, plus I would only update if moving to 1440p or 2k monitor. That's why I'm waiting for the 3rd party Ti edition cards to come out. Superior cooling and better overclocking. I've got a 4k monitor already and I've just been waiting for the right card to put it to use.

nicky: You have to have a GPU strong enough to "push" all those pixels, like "possibly" the new generation of video cards.
CPU = i9 11900K GPU = RTX 3080 Ti Monitor = ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQX 2160p G-sync

As a ww1 flysim player on a 2560/1440 monitor this could be also an very intresting option, think a GTX1080 would be a little bit overkill in my situation.
You say Overkill. I call it "future proofing." I haven't heard about a DirectX 12 compatible WOFF 4 yet, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared. LOL

a GTX1080 would be a little bit overkill in my situation. No such thing as "overkill" in graphics cards. As Hellshade says, its "future proofing" and even then, an upper range GPU has a realistic 'game life' of about 4 or 5 years tops before new game and graphic technology render it somewhat obsolete. Yes, it may still run most software within reason, but not to the extent the software is capable off. I have a few 'rules of thumb' when I build a new gaming box... 1. The quietest, tightest and physically biggest case out there (Usually an Antec). Ever notice how graphics cards and cooling systems get physically bigger? A larger than originally needed case can serve you through 2 or 3 rebuilds. 2. NEVER skimp on the Motherboard! It is the primary base tech hardware of your box!!! Buy the very best, most cutting edge MB you can (Usually an Asus). This will assure upgrade-ability to new, more powerful CPU/GPU/RAM for at least 4 years minimum, usually more. 3. Time your new mega build well. Follow gaming tech. Know what the key factors in gaming will be over the next few years. What will games that are as yet unreleased, but currently in beta requiring to run flat out? Wait until 2 or 3 major new component technologies come out about the same time. CPU/GPU/RAM are the core of a system. Match them well on a cutting edge MB and you're in great shape for 4 or 5 years minimum. Rick

Could somebody (preferably a wizard like Ancor) explain in words of few syllables with no TLA's what exactly does DirectX 9 do that DirectX 11 doesn't do? And how does he manage to move some of the processing to the video card and away from the single CPU core? I am running Process Lasso and run WOFF and CFS3 on one core and everything else on the other 3. I think this should be a good idea. Does anyone do the same thing? Hey Buff1, I at least have an Antec case but everything else is somewhat mid-range. The case weighs a ton
LG 27" 27mp65 monitor; EVGA GTX970 GPU; AMD Ryzen 3500 CPU; Corsair 750w PSU; MSI X470 mobo

Mine is also lined with Acoustipack and has 100% rubber mountings. With a Puget Hydro CL3 Liquid Cooling System and super quiet fans, you don't even know its running... Rick

LOL There will no Woff4 and I see no furhter inprovements on Rof. So I guess these game will not going on to going futher, right now my actual card can handle Woff (nearly all on max) and rof very well on supersampling, only Rof using the channel map and supersampling is still asking for low FPS, in this case the FuryX or GTX980ti will come in the picture. But who knows if Im going for a 4k monitor and/or going to play Battlefield1 or maybe a new directX12 WW1 flysim then I have to go for something like the GTX1080ti or 1085. But right now based on what my GPU is using, the GTX1080 would be an overkill.

There will no Woff4 and I see no furhter inprovements on Rof. That's probably true however: It's possible that OBD will come back to WOFF in the future, especially if they come up with some new tricks in their new sim...they may wish to create a WOFF 4 that further updates the engine again. Unlikely and definitely not promised, but possible. Even if WOFF is truly no longer in major development and ROF has ceased all development, there will still be new Sims and games coming out that will take advantage of the 1080s processing power. BF1 hardly qualifies as a sim, but it would still be fun to run it on max eye candy detail. And I already do have a 4k monitor. I bought it in anticipation of the day when somebody produced a single card that would fully use it. So I'm hoping the 1080 ti can run 4k gaming on max details. Think of the WOFF 3 screenshots! Certainly the 1080 cards are not for everyone, but they aren't for nobody either. It's the perfect upgrade from my old 780 ti so I'm looking forward to its greater memory and faster processing power advantages.

I've posted in other threads about me always being a AMD guy ,and at last they seem to be getting their drivers in order. (I'm really liking the Crimson drivers)..but my next card is going to be an Nvidia 1070 or 1080. I agree with you Hellshade it's all about future proofing. I don't just play WOFF I play a few graphically intensive games,I've a 2k monitor with a fantastic R9 390 but titles like Witcher 3 will not run at 60fps maxed out,it runs smoothly enough but I want more . Me personally I'm going wait a few months,and see what the third party manufacturers come out with (Sapphire,Msi Gigabyte) and then shop around. It wouldn't be as big an upgrade from my card as it is from your 780ti ..but I still feel it's big enough for the jump. Let us know when you get your card pal, and your findings with it..I hopefully will get one as a Christmas present..if I'm good

Veering slightly off topic, but given the realities of the flight Sim market in general and the WWI flight Sim market in particular, I'm not holding my breath for a new WWI flight Sim for a very, very long time. More likely they will add WWI planes to World of Planes or something like that. But a deep single player WWI flight Sim that's historically accurate? Too expensive to build for too small an audience. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.
As for Vega, I can't wait to see what AMD unveils. I'm definitely an Nvidia guy, but without competition from AMD I'm sure development would slow considerably, so I always cheer both sides.
When 3rd party 1080 ti cards with better coolers come out, I will be happy to give a report on how well it does, but really the report for WOFF will probably just be perfect 60 fps at 2k under every circumstance except high time compression rates which I presume is a more CPU intensive task. Time will tell though.

Hi Shredward
Can you please let me know your setting. I have recently purchases a gaming pc with a 980Ti, but have not had the time to fly WOFF - RL getting in the way! I am now able to spend time on WOFF and would like to get an idea of the workshop settings?
Cheers
