I have naval action on Steam and it offers playing in what i assume is the standard mode, or play beta... What is the difference?I started on the 1st choice, but could change not having made much progress. The youtube tutorials are essential!

Sitting here with a mug of hot navy coffee, looking over the charts and logs. So far, starting to get the hang of sailing the cutter into battle and becoming a bit hoarse from the exhortations of my poorly drilled gun crews....anyway, I understand there is no manual yet (it is still Alpha) but is there a fairly comprehensive guide to the game mechanics? I've watched a few Youtoob videos but usually the guide fella is just too eager to get into sea fights to actually explain things.
I'd like to upgrade my crew and my cannons (default 4 lbrs). Is there a limitation on what you can fit, and if so is there a way to tell from the descriptors? I *think* I can fit some 12 lber carronades but don't want to buy them if they won't slot in. Is there a decent guide to trading and crafting?
Cheers! It's Wednesday, so a toast; "Ourselves"
a reply; "since no one else is likely to think of us"
Currently dabbling in; WOTR/BoF, Naval Action! also Run 8, IL2BOS/BOM

Graphics look great and I love the period but I am concerned by the following:
1. Few ships 2. A straightjacket approach to getting started; forced to sail a sloop(?) and work your way up 3. No historical battles
1. new ships will constantly get added AFAIK
2. this gives newbies a better chance. If the experienced comanders could all jump in with the big ships, there might be too little prey (and chances) for thze small ones?
3. there seem to be battle modes like "Trafalgar", where you need a minimum amount of ships. But I guess that is not what you meant.

2. Not really interested in MP. But I guess it's all MP, correct? 3. Interested in historic battle scenarios like those found in Age of Sail II
