I've been wanting to try R6:Siege on either the console or PC but was not willing to shell out the price of a full game.
However, now, Ubisoft has released a "Starter Edition" of the game that gives you access to the full game but only a handful of operatives (you'll have to do more grinding to unlock the rest of the ops).
The price is only $15. It's only available for the PC and only from now (June 2nd) till June 19th.
You get full access to all modes, missions, etc. But, you only have access to two operators to start, along with 600 R6 Credits to spend on two more Operators or other unlocks. The Ops are randomly chosen from a pool of six: Rook, Sledge, Ash, Fuze, Mute and Smoke. (Suggestions appreciated.) Additional Ops can be unlocked by earning 12,500 renown instead of the usual 500-2,000 in the Standard Edition of the game. So, yeah, more grinding but I'm ok with that.
Aside from that you have access to the same maps, modes, level progression, weapon options, post-launch content, servers and matchmaking options as the standard edition with no restrictions and no level cap.
Once you have it, you keep all the content even after the sale period is over.
I wish The Division offered this. I'd have saved $45.
So, I figure, what the hell, why not try it for only $15. Downloading now.

Yeah I like that approach, basically you get the same content as the full thing, it just takes longer to unlock the other classes.
Hope that's a model other games will follow, I'd probably try out other games like that, i.e. I'm interested in Overwatch now, but not enough to pay $60 for it, but for $15 for a more initially limited character/grindy version I'd definitely give it a go.

Sledge is all you need! LOL Actually the way the game works, you may find yourself using the default red shirt character a lot and not one of those operators sometimes. When the room opens, each member of the team chooses an operator from the stack they have unlocked. Each one can only be chosen by one player, there can be no duplicates on the team. If the ones you have get taken, you end up stuck with the default guy. You can outfit him with certain weapons/gadgets, but he doesn't stand out much compared to certain operators. Also keep in mind that you have attacker operators and defender operators. They can only be used for what they are intended. Mute defends and cannot be used for attacking etc. I like Mute too. Ash sucks. Fuze is ok. Mute and Sledge are almost always chosen. Rook has the armor I think so isn't bad. http://www.gamerevolution.com/features/tier-list-the-best-and-worst-rainbow-six-siege-operators
