. Greetings All, I just had an experience during a Quick Combat in WOFF 3 that makes up for my investment in both time and money. Truth be told it would have been worth three-fold the cost. I was getting some stick time in the N17 for Rick's upcoming Lafayette Escadrille challenge event and was having a go-round with an Alb II. After a wonderfully protracted duel that lasted a good several minutes with one of the Kaiser's best I managed to send a volley directly into the cockpit and engine and watched as my opponent suddenly jinxed and started to descend. He was able to set down in an open field so I followed and landed next to him. I then watched as the fellow seemed to attempt to shut off the engine. He was peering down into the cockpit when all at once he raised his eyes, looked straight ahead for a moment, and then his head slumped back against the cockpit combing - and he died. It gave me honest-to-god chills. I truly felt sorry for this virtual foe and I just sat there for the longest time looking across at him. Here are a few screenshots I was able to take to document the moment, (oh how I wish I'd had the video capture running). Landed next to my vanquished foe. The brave flieger seemed to be attempting to shut off his disabled mount. I watched as the poor fellow slumped back in the cockpit and died. I would never have to experience another moment like this again in WOFF and it would still be worth every bit of time and money I have invested in it over the years. This is, without a doubt, the greatest WWI combat flight sim I have ever flown. Well done OBD. .

Thank you for sharing, Lou - WOFF can occasionally come up with another, yet never seen moment like that. And every time it gives me goose skin!

Even German soldiers are not crazy as that, kaa - when it comes to dying, I guess we all are pretty much the same fragile, frightened little sods.

Very cool. As to what it means...he was wounded and "bled out"? Does your wound % drop occasionally? Guess I never noticed. I had a very close call in WOFF 2 the other night. My late 1918 German pilot (appropriately named Bruno Stachel) was hit several times by enemy fire over the lines, one happened to clip a fuel line and his plane went up. Tried an old trick that never worked in other WWI sims like Red Baron, and dived the plane straight down. The flames wounded him further but, after cutting the engine, the blast of wind put the fire out. I think his health kept ticking down slightly - Bruno recovered from his wounds and is back in the line 3 weeks later. Nice! Boy this sim is pretty amazing.

WOFF, the culmination of great effort to bring to life the greatest WWI sim, or perhaps any sim, since, well, ever. There is nothing that compares to it. Nothing. Out of all the adjectives that are justly attributed to WOFF there is only one which completely encompasses the scope of this magnificent sim: Immersion. It's THAT key word which is used so often that one would think it has lost relevance. But it cannot because it is the cornerstone and the very definition of WOFF. Every aspect embedded into WOFF contributes to this immersion. It's why we fly. We are rewarded in every flight, even the ones with no encounters, with that immersion. It's our cake and we savor every bite. What Lou has shared with us is the icing. The OH, MY, GOD moment. WOFF's cake is rich and fulfilling but it's icing adds so much more!

I think what you said.

Well spoken, Jammer - my thoughts exactly! And while a cake is eaten quickly (at least, when it falls into my hands! Mmuahahahahaaa!!!), WOFF is like a kinda "positive Sisyphus' Cake" - 1. not easy work eating it - but delicious! 2. when eaten, you can eat it again and again 3. occasional tummy-ache will not keep you long from eating more of it!
