Apparently a P-47 has crashed in New York: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36404322The story says the pilot got out, but doesn't give details.

Not many war birds still flying about. Makes you wonder if maybe these old war horses should just get stuck on display. No, there are plenty of P-47's gathering dust in museums but only a handful being flown as intended.

Obviously deadstick landing. Flaps down. Looks like he did everything he could do to bring the plane in and save himself.

I volunteered at the Airpower Museum, which owned this plane. I didn't know the pilot, but it was my favorite planes in the collection. Its a great place to go on Memorial day, as there are normally lots of planes, B-17 (Yankee Lady) and a P-51, to name a few. Very Sad! My condolences to the pilots family! RIP. Took, these with my phone, so not the greatest. Where is a pic from a year ago, with my son standing in from of it. Rob

I've done drown proofing, and I'll tell you water is hell when under stress. I can only imagine how hard it was to unbuckle the restrains while water is filling the cockpit and I wouldn't be shocked if the wind was knocked out of him at the same time.
RIP dear pilot....
