As the title says. Suitable for beginners without being to basic. I've wanted an RC plane for years. It just might be time.

I've heard good things about this RC Cub for starting out:

Make sure it is a high wing 4 channel. I suggest getting a simulator for your PC first.

Did you decide on a model?

Sorry I didn't get back earlier. Been putting a new rear end in my Mustang so that has kept me pretty preoccupied the last few days. I'm looking at the RC Cub you recommended. Priced right to test the waters I think.

Would you recommend a tail dragger as a first aircraft? That would be something to consider if you are worried you might prang a prop on a nose over verses the inherent stability of a tricycle landing gear.

EDIT: just noticed how small the plane was. Landing gear's probably not an issue. For me the small size would be but that's personal preference.

The smaller the wingspan, usually the trickier it is to fly. Stay away from the 36 inch wing spans at first. It's tempting, with all the cool stuff out there.

I learned on a big BRIDI (Great Planes) tricycle gear with a 60 inches wingspan. Made it myself from their plans. I agree with the smaller planes being 'trickier' to fly. IMO a larger plane gives the pilot a better response time than a twitchy small bird. You can see it farther out while still determining flight attitude, direction, speed AND they aren't as affected by wind as muchas the smaller planes.

I know people are successful with the smaller planes but I prefer the larger ones for beginning.

Either way... have fun. That's what it's all about.

I agree larger planes are a little more stable and the wind thing is a big factor if you live in a windy area. Being able to fly often in your typical weather conditions is key.

On the flip side, a larger plane will require more space to fly in and likely a large "prepared" surface to land on. Smaller planes are more flexible in these areas. The high power to weight ratio and nimbleness of smaller planes can also make them easier to recover from hairy situations.

I would look into what your local options are for flying sites and factor that into what you get.

Add a transmitter to this one and you're all set.

http://www.horizonhobby.com/carbon-z-cub-bnf-basic-with-as3x%C2%AE-technology-efl10450

Can take off in short spaces, has a stabilization system so it's easy to fly, and has easy handling characteristics.

Ready To Run, I believe.

Also, stay away from scale models at first. Sure, everyone wants a Mustang, but the RC versions are pretty hard to fly. Oh and, Dart - NICE !!!

Nice that they make an ass out of themselves, eh Dart. stirthepot

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.
