Imagine the size of the fart required to make the sun flare.
Epic.
Especially when what caused it all was some kid pulling on a finger. Zeus, being a good uncle, told a young Atlas to do so.
Fun fact: physics still works, even for the gods, so Helios probably got a little bump from the sudden fire on the sun, altering his course slightly. This may explain the Devonian mass extinction event.

Edit... ah... It's from Fox. That explains a lot. Fox 26 =/= Fox News Every other local news station in the country is Fox ## KRIV, virtual channel and UHF digital channel 26, is a Fox owned-and-operated television station located in Houston, Texas, United States. (first result in Bing Search) A fox, by any other name, still would get the scientific facts wrong!

I wonder what Matt Wagner would think of all this?
Can someone ask him to RSVP via PM?

He's too busy writing an epic Opera I think. Or maybe another browser.

He's too busy writing an epic Opera I think. Or maybe another browser. His new opera will be even LONGER than his classic "Der Ring des Nibelungen"!

I started writing a long comment, but I'll condense it. I'm not surprised that the NASA article isn't clear to start with. Media relations and information staff at technical institutions seem to be generally rather less than fluent with the subtleties of the subject matter they are working with, and typically poorly overseen. The researchers whose work they are translating for a lay audience are frequently not sufficiently interested to do a proper proofing of their work, or may not be in position to do so; it is rather under the control of the administration.
I've been in the habit of browsing a website sciencedaily.com, that seems to run articles which are mostly verbatim transcriptions of institutional news releases summarizing research, sometimes condensed or truncated, a little awkwardly. The articles have a huge range in quality, from lucid to utterly muddled, and from the articles I've been puzzled by, and sufficiently motivated to trace back to the originating news release, most of the inconsistency is in the original releases. I think it comes down to the rate that new science and tech is being produced, and the lack of resources to direct toward doing a good job of communicating it to the public.
It's a bit of a pain; sometimes the stuff on the sciencedaily site makes me cringe. Well, of course it doesn't help that many of the institutions harvested for the site are not in english speaking regions, and the sciencedaily compilers make no effort to tighten up the english in those news releases. But that is hardly the main cause of the problem.

So, in other words, Raw Kryptonite was correct.

Amazingly he's turned it into Classical Dub Step, and it will redefine both genres.
Feuer auf der Sonne will change everything.
