Yes we did. With how often CG visits these boards I'm surprised he didn't notice the recent thread on Jutland. Either that or he just wanted to start his own thread about the same subject.

I posted this at 4:25 am. I didn't see an existing thread for it.

From over a month ago?

As I've already said, at 4:25 am I wasn't going to go looking very hard for an existing thread.

The Royal Navy ruled the sea for 200 PLUS years.

How come it hasn't done so since after World War 2?

The powers to be allowed it to get smaller and smaller.

The UK was financially bankrupt after WW2. It took several decades to pay off the debt and you had the rise of new superpowers in the US and USSR. If you look at history you'll see that no country/empire remains the world power forever.

According to Errol Brown, Everyone's a winner, baby!

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Not only was the British Empire on the ropes financially, very quickly after WWII the Empire became a Commonwealth, losing most of its colonies for a host of reasons.

No far flung colonies and protectorates = no need for a global reach Navy, particularly when the USA was more than happy to perform the duty of protecting international shipping lanes and ensuring the free flow of trade over the waves.

After watching this: idiocy and incompetence on the part of the British Admiralty and the Commanders of certain ships caused the unnecessary loss of lives.
