Interesting, how an owl's face is made like a radar bowl, built to catch up
perfectly any incoming light and noise!
I guess that night they were checking what or who you are. Having a close look.
A new guy around. Let's see if he is okay.

Arriving at my charity work at the BERLINER TAFEL on the huge fruit and vegetable
market hall grounds on Saturday, I watched a red kite circling overhead.
Never seen one in the city before, and then so close - he circled at only 10 - 20 meters.

When he came into an area which was temporary crow territory, some of them tried
to attack the bigger red kite. But while the had to paddle hard with their wings
to follow, he mostly sailed without a single wing slap.

When three crows engaged him, something like a dogfight arose, a fight between quite
different "aircraft", with different tactics.
They approached him from 3 directions, but while they struggled, he only needed some
most dashing, elegant curves to avoid them. I could see very well, how he used his
"tailplane" most effectively to perform these turns.
When a crow managed to get into striking distance, he folded back his wings, dropped
with a simultanous half roll, and sailed away in the opposite direction.
Before the crow had managed to fly a 180° turn, he was already far from it.

Then he decided to show them, that they would be easy meat for him, if he wanted.
He went into a dive and shot fast overhead the main group of crows, which sat in a line
along the roof edge. He was only two feet over them, and their flight instict pushed
them up into the air, to escape the threat.
After that he went into a climb, still hardly slapping a wing at all, and he watched
the startled-up cloud of angry crows from his height advantage.
Although I wasn't close enough to recognise his face, I would bet he smiled a cool smile
about those black, agitated bandits.

(Mind you - I also like crows and ravens. Very intelligent birds.)

Thank You, I've delt with what ails ya too....this kicked my ass worse!

Glad you are doing well !

I like crows and ravens too....
...and all birds.....

...my first kill was a raven when then migrated thru my neck of the woods. I was 7 and took him with an arrow to the heart. My Father showed how to skin it, taught me some anatomy in da process, and we ate breast meat.

Been watching the Turkeys Spring Mating.... Didn't have the "Umpth" to go out, but let a couple young bucks hunt on my place.....LOL....watched the Turkey Mate while the young bucks were calling Jakes. I called one in for the youngest hunter on anutter day. He is a Kool Kid...

For my Cat, Dusty...
...his rough tongue awoke me, ruffed my nose red, he needed me, gave me a reason to get on my feet again. He keeps my shack mouse free too.

Haha, funny pics in that video!

I just saw this one and wondered, how hard it can be for a bird to show it's affection
to a mamal, when it has no hands to stroke, no long tongue to lick, and no soft lips
to kiss. But I think you can see in this little video: she shows it bird's way.
As good as it gets...
