SweetFX for WOFF UE (also works with WOFF 1, 2, and 3)

Compatible with all versions of Windows that can run WOFF

Directions
2. Place the downloaded zip file in a temp directory and unzip it. Then run the “SweetFX for WOFF UE v1.20” application.

3. Activate “SweetFX for WOFF UE” using JSGME.

4. Once activated in JSGME, SweetFX will be automatically running when you start flying in WOFF. Use the “Scroll Lock” key to turn SweetFX on/off in-game to check to see if it is working.

You will still have to do Step 1 below, but this mod will eliminate everything else and place SweetFX in your JSGME ready to activate (JSGME must be installed in WOFF prior to installing this mod).

Step 1 (this is required to run SweetFX in addition to this mod)

Run directx_Jun2010_redist found in your WOFF DX9Redist folder here
C:/ODBSoftware/WOFF/Toolbox/DX9Redist

It will dump a bunch of zip files and another application called "DXSETUP" in your folder (I just ran it directly in the WOFF/Toolbox/DX9Redist folder).

Then run DXSETUP and you're done. DXSETUP knows where all the DX9 files on your computer are and the update is fully automatic. This is a Microsoft program and completely safe.

You must do this first step even if you already have DirectX 9 installed and working fine. Windows does not have a full installation of DX9, it essentially has the "Lite" version instead. Doing Step 1 will give you a full installation of DX9 including some files essential to SweetFX. And doing Step 1 is recommended by OBD entirely unrelated to running SweetFX.

I just kind of assumed most folks would already have SweetFX, but I've had enough requests for an auto installed JSGME version I thought I'd put one together (with the help of Robert Wiggins, of course smile ).

As you mentioned, v1.5.1 seems to work really well with WOFF, so thought I would make it easier for folks to find it. cheers

Yes your JGSME version is a god send.
Frankly I hated to goof with SweetFX most times because of all the darn files - now with your work it is a "one-click" affair.
Still loving the "just Lumasharpen" effect. Thanks for the steer on modding the .ini file. Knew that a long time ago but had forgotten!

Decided to give this a go... I ran the DX9 setup thing in toolbox, and it pops up a box asking where I want the files to go... I thought you said it knows where all the files are located?

I have no idea where I'm supposed to install them.

I don't know, Trooper.

In the first step when I ran "directx_Jun2010_redist" it asked where the files should go, so I just picked the Toolbox\DX9Redist folder where I was at already. Or it can be a temp folder anywhere. Just pick a folder that is empty because it will extract a bunch of files into it (Desktop would be a bad idea).

But when I ran the DXSETUP program (which is one of the files extracted in the first step) it didn't ask me for anything. It just ran.

If you are talking about the first step (running "directx_Jun2010_redist" ) think of it just like unzipping a file...its asking you where you want to dump all this stuff.

The second step (running DXSETUP) is the actual update step, and if its asking you where to put things then I don't know.

Maybe someone else who has seen this can help out?

Prior to running the DX9 file in the Toolbox Trooper I create a folder on my Desktop called, surprise, "New Folder."
Now click the DX9 .exe it will ask where to put the files and point it to your newly created "New Folder."
When done open that folder and find the "Setup.exe" (IIRC) inside.
Click on that and it will run for about 6 seconds installing DX9.
When it is done you can delete the "New Folder."
Done!

Bucksnort, thanks for doing that.

One thing when you install this it gives a super wide-angle lens view initially (FOV 80) - yikes - via your D3D8.ini.

Can you set it to default please - or change the readme to mention they may need to reset by changing some items in the Worksshop including FOV.

Ok, Pol, sorry about that.

The last thing I was going to do was to reset everything to WOFF defaults in the D3D8.ini before I zipped it up, but I forgot (the best laid plans of mice and men). sigh

When I reissue this later today or tomorrow it will include the default WOFF settings.

I don't even use FOV 80, it looks like you're in a low space shuttle orbit! hahaha But I remember looking at it the other day, and that is obviously when I captured the file for this mod!

Duke,

Part of your Workshop settings are written to the D3D8.ini file that is part of this mod.

So this mod will reset FOV, Cloud Shadow Density and some of your other Workshop settings when you install it. Since a reset will occur, it is best to reset the player back to Default WOFF settings.

And it is easy for the player to go back into Workshop and set things back as they would like, but the FOV 80 is downright goofy and isn't a good way to showcase anything! hahaha

The pre-release version I sent you probably had my normal FOV of 35 to 50 (I've been playing with it lately), so you might not have even noticed.

But this one I've released is FOV 80 which is the astronaut view with a huge fish-eye effect! Players will think someone has spiked their coffee! hahaha

Hi Trooper,

Couple of questions:

1. Is your mods folder located here C:\OBDSoftware\WOFF\Mods

2. Take a look at your D3D8.ini file located here C:\OBDSoftware\WOFF\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields
Just left click on it once to highlight it and its contents will display on the right in Windows Explorer.

The first few lines should look like this:

[D3D8]
; Change to NoMultisampling=1 for SweetFX compatibility, but it will disable ingame antialiasing.
NoMultisampling=1



Does Multisampling=1 or 0 on yours?

Yes I got an earlier version. If the FOV is not Default then it is real close. Everything looks just fine but I will double check.

That's it. This mod will only work in the default (generally agreed upon) location of ":\OBDSoftware\WOFF\Mods"

It has to run there, as it has to hit both the "OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields" folder as well as the "WOFFScenery" folder which are both sub folders of the OBDSoftware\WOFF folder. This mod has to be installed one level higher in a :\OBDSoftware\WOFF\Mods folder to be able to write files to the two sibling folders.

Sorry, but its the way JSGME works. The only way you can get to all the folders in the WOFF directory with JSGME is to have a Mods folder installed directly under the WOFF folder.

I actually run two installations of JSGME. One where you've got it, and a second using WOFF/Mods. So that's another option for you.

Hmm, ok... but all my other WoFF mods work, some of them have the same file structure as you have described, yet they still work... very strange!

When we are talking "FOV" here are we talking about the "ExternalFOV" setting in the d3d8.ini file and not the cockpit FOV?

Correct, Duke. ExternalFOV has a value of 80 in v1.00 of this mod.

It will be set back to the WOFF default value of 35 in v1.10

And you can change the value in WOFF Workshop if you like (my personal favorite is 40).

I just changed it back to what's in the Workshop (35) but if the 80 was showing in game I ididnt notice - unless the Workshop setting was trump in-game.

Quick question for you sir while I am the middle of a WOFF crash test.

I remember from using SweetFX back in the day you had to "write protect" the d3d8.ini file, specifically to turn off in-game AA, otherwise WOFF would rewrite the file and turn it back on with start-up.

I was just making personal changes to your files and I notice yours are not "write protected" yet SweetFX (at least for the Lumasharpen that I use) apparently still works and stays different (in the clouds and cloud shadows settings for example) then the Default WOFF setting in the Workshop, i.e., the WOFF.exe is apparently not overwriting anything.

Am I missing the bus on something again?

Hi Duke,

WOFF 3 is working differently than WOFF 2, in that it will crash after you've made changes in Workshop when you write protect the D3D8.ini file. WOFF 2 would let us get away with write protecting the D3D8, but it was also trying to overwrite the file as that is why we had to write protect it. And any Workshop changes it tried to overwrite were not succeeding.

So I really don't think we were doing it quite right with WOFF 1 and 2. This new approach lets us run SweetFX and save our changes from Workshop, something that wasn't happening in WOFF 2 on anything written by Workshop to the D3D8.ini file, and probably not in WOFF 1 either (although I don't remember).

Ahh ok thank you. A final question and I will stop pestering you.

Notice my WOFF Workshop clouds settings are 9 and 8 respectively (WOFF Default) yet in the SweetFX d3d8.ini file they are 10 and 10. And neither changes with play.
So which setting is being used?

Its when I try to write it up all fancy as an official mod that I can't seem to get this one right hahaha

And its not a hard mod, but I found every way to pack it up wrong when I sent it to Robert for the auto-installer...twice!

Robert has already sent me a note and he now has v1.20 to be put into an auto-installer. So I'm hoping to have v1.20 ready for folks later today or tomorrow, and then I'll also send it on to OBD for their website.

If Multisampling=1, which means AA is off, do you, guys, use the option SSAA - supersampling ?
Does this have effect, if AA is off ?

Hi Bronnx,

SweetFX cannot run at the same time as CFS3 in-game anti aliasing. Its one or the other. So when this mod sets NoMultisampling=1 it has disabled WOFF in-game anti aliasing no matter what the settings are in workshop.

So if you are using "Override Application" in your video card for AA this mod will have no effect on your AA. If you are using "Enhance Application" or if you are strictly using CFS3 in-game AA set in WOFF workshop, then this mod will disable it.


Dogfighting is what you do "after" you drop your bombs and blow something up!

Yes, this mod works in WOFF UE.

Hi all new user to WOFF UE i am trying to get my head warped around the install process for SweetFX and so far the game just comes up with the game terminated prematurely error.
I have JSGME and the JSGME config files in the OBDSoftware/WOFF folder. i then ran the SweetFX for WOFF UE v1_20 by Bucksnort application this added the mods folder and in that i have the SweetFX for WOFF 1-2-3 V1_20 by Bucksnort folder the JSGME Confid file and a SweetFX text file.
I did a fresh install of the game then installed the patch then ran the DX 9 install ???? help

depends on what version your WOFF is

SweetFX will run fine uptil ver.4.18 after that you have to use Reshade.
It works well too but I find it not as good as SwFX, thus I still fly with v.4.17

Search the Forum and you should quickly find a thread about WOFF and Reshade

Ok thanks i now have Reshade instaled and working. I am trrying to take some screen shots using the default K but don't know where heay are saved lol.

They are saved at C:\users\admin\documents\obdww1 over flanders fields\

I have a question regarding using the Sweet FX mode.

I was concerned on the step 1 that has to put a full copy of DX9 in your system.
I am running Win 8.1 64 bit, and play an number of other sims like Train Simulator 2020, DCS, IL2 1946, ROF, IL2 Cliff of Dover and more.

By doing this step, can it have any adverse effects on those games that may be using a higher level of DX?
And if so, how would I reverse it if I find there are issues in other sims that I may start up later.

Installing DX9 will not mess in any way with any other version of DirectX on your system and every game should be able to handle it without any issues. Old version of DX can't override another version or anything like that. There can be any number of DX version on your computer and it will cause no issues.

In any case, you should have manually installed the included version of DX9 on your computer for WOFF to work without issues.

Just a quick note to retro WOFFers running ver. 4.21 of WOFF (UE), or earlier iterations - and interested in the Bucksnort SweetFX, JSGME-friendly patch --- it is no longer available from the Dropbox download link on page one of this thread.


Recommended instead is to download SweetFX ver. 1.5.x from one of the relevant links below, and then to construct JSGME-friendly folders manually, before loading in WOFF UE (4.21) or earlier:
