Did anyone even look at his meager and mediocre movie director record before giving him the job?
What happened? Spielberg, Eastwood, Soderbergh, Hanks, Cameron, Scorsese, Coen, Lee, Bigelow, Mann, Lynch, Demme and Stone were all busy?
Oh I am expecting this to be historically inaccurate, to sucks and to be a dishonor toward the brave men who died with the USS Indianapolis.

It almost looks like they're trying to say it was not known sunk because it was unescorted. I bet they don't note that three different stations received distress calls and three ignored them (a drunk c.o., a guy who thought it was a Jap trap, and a guy who didn't want to be awakened).
It looks like they got the Catalina landing against orders right....

jeez totally ripping a movie apart based on 3 mins of footage I didnt think it looked that bad!
Oh, I am sure I will see the thing. Its simply everything has been so bad. Heading to the theater is like setting a 20 dollar bill on fire. And that ends up more entertaining. But it could be goodish. Maybe?

You have a better chance nowadays of winning the lottery with that $20 than come away watching a memorable good movie with that $20.

A black man next to the Captain doesn't seem historically accurate.
African Americans served as stewards and mess cooks on ships up to cruiser size. And the flash of a scene of a fight between black and white sailors looks very accurate for all the books I've read from that place and time.

Yes, but I still doubt it. You know how much hell I got for sitting next to a Colonel in Africa, when that Colonel invited me to sit with him when he realized the Chadian General knew me? Every O-3 and E-7 on our part of the compound gave me crap about it. I just cant see someone that low ranking hanging like that, let alone during that period of time. Maybe during the crisis of being drifting, but I don't know.

It looks like U-571. They had already dropped off the nuclear bomb and were transiting the area. It wasn't a suicide mission.

The lack of sunburn/skin damage is notable.
I met the son of a sailor who passed on that ship, the story should be somber and honoring, it looks like an action/gore fest.
I'm sure there was fighting between black and white guys back then in armed forces. But what does that have to do with what happened to that ship? Nothing. All movies today have a required sub plot about American 'racism' in it. If they made Cleopatra again, somehow the would find a way to get it in the movie. Any way, might be good.

Stewards served the officers, including one that the CO would have personally, and would have been known to all the officers personally. Go back and read Dorie Miller's Navy Cross citation- it really wasn't as unusual aboard ship as you may think.

It was incredibly common aboard ships and on shore then, as written in many accounts from that time. It's not about "adding a subplot of racism," it's about providing some historical accuracy instead of glossing over the history and pretending that racism wasn't an issue, and didn't have direct effects on the sailors on both sides- and that's without even getting into Chinese and Filipino stewards either. And frankly, I would imagine that when you go over the side and have to rely on everybody else around you while you're in the water, some of those tensions might come back up.

I was in Indianapolis about 15-20 years ago, stopped by the USS Indianapolis memorial in a beautiful park. Saw an older gentleman wearing a straw hat sitting on a low wall near the monument that looked vaguely familiar. I went over and introduced myself and he did likewise: Charles Butler McVay IV, Captain McVays eldest son. Very nice man, it was a honor to speak with him.

Since when does Hollywood get a WW II film right? Very rarely.

One would think Hollywood could at least model the Indy correctly.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.
