This friday is the announcement of what the new battlefield game will be. Rumor has it that it will be a world war one game.

I kind of hope it is. That seems like it would be a great concept for a game though probably not popular with the masses.

That could be pretty interesting. 1943 on the 360 was a ton of fun and never quite got spoiled like the modern day games.
Still, shooters + MP + PC = bad voodoo all too soon.

ON ww1 everyone has it stuck in their heads that it was all trench warfare. Ya, a big chunk was. But it was not at the beginning, it was not so much off out side of Europe, and it was much less at the end in certain places. But of course, if it goes ww1, it will of course be all trenches. As game studios rarely look at history or make it work for them.

Or it will be fantasy steam punk ww1. Which actually could be cool.

Teaser. So wwi or wwii most definitely.

Seems like a zeppelin overshadowing him. So I think WWI.

How about actually the future? The successor to 2142?

I wouldn't mind them slowing it down for my poor brain and reflexes. I also would REALLY like to get away from future or near future. I find it uninteresting and annoying. Have class customization and weapon grind unlocks with customization set in WW1 could be fun! Knowing it birthed new and unconventional and uncommon warfare practices this setting could be really good if they do it right.

I loved running around in Codename Eagle with the zeppelins about and older planes.

I'd drop dead from shock if it was a WW1 game. I'm betting future or near-future, because they guy in the video didn't look like someone from WW1, and COD's going (even more) scifi this year.

A futuristic Battlefield would guarantee that I won't be buying it.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

I would welcome a WW1 Battlefield, but I really can't see how it could be successful. There are such limitations when it comes to weaponry, vehicles and aircraft. I think the masses would find it boring.
I can't take another modern/futuristic shooter. I hope it is not WW1 with double jumping.

There are TONS of guns vehicles and aircraft. The problem is that people dont know much about wwi.

For instance

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_infantry_weapons_of_World_War_I

Im not going to post a list of planes and vehicles because there are just too many of them to properly list.

Also wwi was not just trench warfare. About 80% of the war didnt have trenches. It was almost exactly like wwii warfare on just about every front other than the trench in france.

So basically Unreal Tournament in an era that was as physically far from it as possible. It's going to be comical to see at least. The art you've posted backs that up, time for more fantasy camp land shooter fun.

Guess I'll wait until BF6.

God, looking at that picture just made me wince!
I can't seriously imagine a worse pic to illustrate where the next game will be.
I would have thought the first image they would want prospective buyers to see would be a grim looking bunch assaulting a trench, with all hell breaking loose around them?

I agree. I winced hard myself. How ludicrous. I also find it disrespectful. Disrespectful to the real men. I also find it to be evidence of the social engineering that this new world in the making is pushing down everyone's throat. The supposedly WW1 soldier looks like a pissed off, youthful black man with a chip on his soldier, a hatred for the white eye and though his weaponry and tech is early 20th century if not still left over last century equipment, by golly he's going to go Star Wars with the whole deal and prance around the battlefield as though he believes he's in a movie and being watched by thousands of adoring fans.

That picture turned me off big time. Does anyone at EA care about history and respecting yesteryear? Why can't that be celebrated? Its obvious who their masters are and who it is they are trying to target. Sick. mad

That's not a WWI shot. That's maybe Crimson Skies-type. Those weapons aren't WWI, he's holding who knows what in his left hand but it's nothing they used then, and no one has worn a cape like that in combat in forever.

That is a standard issue trench cape give out to almost every soldier in wwi. It was your poncho and your bed roll all in one.

The weapons he is using are a Mauser C96 1895
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauser_C96

and a German MP18 (1918)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP_18

He also has a gasmask and a trench club.

Everything in that picture is ww1 Even the character is historic.
