This is easily my most anticipated title of the year, I'll probably even give early access a go.
I just hope the devs are giving high priority to audio comms, because that seems to be missing for now.

Undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it, Sir?

I'm getting kind of jazzed about this the closer it seems to be coming. Steam's upcoming list has been bumping this to the top little by little but I know that doesn't have to mean anything. It just makes the jazzing worse lol.

I'm excited to see how the fleet elements work and how the dynamic campaigns will play out. Here's a video with some good info folks. I like that apparently you can see stars fairly high up. Hopefully it'll be similar to LOMAC where you'd have to be at a pretty high altitude to actually see them appear.

It is but I'm sure there will be a brightness slider, hopefully. It seems that its using a vignette which I usually turn off in my games.

For the love of God just take my money! Take it now!

I hope I'm not going to be disappointed, but from reading on the game and watching the vids, kinda reminds me of DiD sims
where a plane is well modeled (not system level fidelity) and you feel like you're involved in a conflict (and not alone).

Looks cool, can't wait!

I don't know...the more I see, the more concerned I get. Why aren't there any control surfaces moving? There does not appear to be any activity with the rudder, ailerons, flaps, etc. The environment is downright bland and totally devoid of any activity that creates immersion. Other than a few buildings near the coast, the entire map looks barren. The flight deck of your LPH is also pretty dead, but for some parked aircraft.

I'm not surprised this thing has been so significantly delayed. The more they show and the longer it goes without a release date, the more I'm convinced the delays were not due to recoding and steam integration as claimed.

I'm hoping for the best and wishing the team a lot of luck, but honestly, I'm expecting to be disappointed.

The videos all seem to be in black and white too. I can see a little colour, but they are really working the grey pallete.

While some valid points, some things to consider.

Since part of the title is "Straits of Hormuz", I am guessing they have the general population of villages represented fairly well, as evidenced in the latter half of the last video. It appears to be flying over a decently populated town and many of the pictures I found on the web portray a fairly stark area, not devoid of population centers, but certainly lots of desert, rock and small population areas.

The traffic on the LPH is semi spartan as you pointed out but as someone that flies FSX and it's autogen capability of populating around built up or detailed area's, perhaps this was done for sake of one's ability to scale according to their GPU and RAM sizes appropriately. Going back to FSX, I know on older systems I have had, at times, it can be a slide show when flying over somewhere like Seattle and the only things moving in FSX are the AI aircraft and weather. Looking at this sim, seeing the battlegroup engaging OPFOR with missiles, rotating RADAR mounts, swiveling gun mounts, weather, ships rolling motions, etc....there's a lot going on graphically.

And regarding the aircraft control surfaces, I believe the flaps are shown deployed when it was demonstrated landing, though I did not see the rudder or ailerons moving either. Not a deal breaker for me, but it would be nice if added later. I suspect some of the delays deal directly with financing and prioritizing what needs to be released sooner than later. The stuff you point too, while making this sim more immersive and realistic, can always be added later as patches go, since that's more a norm anymore and start getting money into the developers pockets. I was a kick start supporter but that venture failed to produce it's set goal, so as other's have stated....take my money already! If this has a decent campaign, I can certainly be entertained with what's inside already.

Anyway, not nit picking your statement, just trying to put positive vibe on it overall.

I'll still definitely be picking this up once it is finally released, but I still don't think they should get a free pass on some very basic features that appear to be omitted. I mean, working control surfaces have been standard in even casual flight sims since what, the mid 1990s? In and of itself, this isn't the biggest deal, but I raise it because if this basic element is not in game, what else is going to be absent?

Release is supposedly imminent, but what have they really shown us? No radio comms, no fleet control elements, no flying with wingmen, no cockpit functionality, no options, set up or arming screens, etc. It's great to put a positive spin on it all, but I think the writing is on the wall and I just don't want to be let down. Remember, the lead developer on this is the same guy who made the game Breed. Remember that one? It had so much potential, yet was a complete unfinished, buggy disaster. Obviously, marine aviation is something that is very near and dear to my heart, and I want this sim to be great, but I'm a realist. My crap sensors are starting to tingle.

As a post script, Ed scio just commented on the cap2 YouTube page that all surfaces are articulated and we will be seeing completed environments shortly. Looking forward to seeing more.

Have a look at the 3:00 mark. You can see the player clicking on both MFDs.

+1
I think the genre need this kind of game to draw in more gamers. Now there's no middle ground, we can't expect anyone new to flight sims start on Falcon 4 or DCS. I like piper's comparison to DID's games. Indeed TAW and EF2000 despite not diving into aircraft systems on current DCS/BMS level, depicted the conflicts with much immersion. I hope that CAP2 will bring this approach back as well.

I doubted that the control surfaces would not move in CAP2, as the original Combat Air Patrol for Amiga was the first flight sim which I saw, that modelled this feature back in 1993.

I'm not sure which videos people are referring to but there is definitely movement of the control surfaces. In fact, the ailerons even droop when the flaps come down past 25 degrees, which means that the flaps are in the VSTOL mode. I can't remember what the full flap travel was but it wasn't terrifically large (it's not a SPAD after all).

Not everything is quite accurate. The HUD for instance looks like a Day Attack HUD and not a Night/Radar bird HUD (which was wider) and the weather vane looks a bit to close the canopy, but it's really not a bad looking effort.

I also hope they put a modern helmet on the pilot. He looks like he should be stepping out of a Skyhawk, not a Harrier. Those helmets and that vest were being phased out in the early '90s...several years before the II Plus came on line.

I hope it's good. I obviously have a soft spot in my heart for the jumpjet.

I've watched video 4 Weapons very carefully several times and I am unable to discern any active movement in any of the control surfaces, so I'm not sure what video you are watching.

Nevertheless, the developer says its there, so I'll take his word and chalk it up to poor resolution in the video.

If you're really more concerned with helmets and vests, this probably is not the sim for you. My understanding is that this will have higher fidelity than say Strike Fighters, but nothing coming close to approaching DCS authenticity or complexity.
