Sorry to gask waht is no doubt an old question, but I'm messing around with the GWUT at the moment and having trouble working out what I'm trying to do.

What I'm attempting is to make Assault and Marine Assault helis capable of performing Supply missions, and Marine Assault, Medium and Heavy-lift transport helis able to perform Insertions. As it stands, you can end up in the weird position of having Assault birds, perfectly capable of carrying a payload, sitting around idle when Supply missions need flying. OK, so they can't carry as much (and I'm trying to edit the GWUT to reflect that), but at least they can carry something.

Anyway, problem is that although I've edited several values, I can't assign the appropriate aircraft to these missions. I've changed the following values:

* resupply_source from 0 to 1 for Assault and Marine Assault;
* ai_stats.cargo_space from 0 to 8 for Assault and Marine Assault (to match the Med/Hvy-lift helis, for testing);
* ai_stats.troop_space from 0 to 10 for Marine Assault, Med and Hvy-Lift helis (for Insertions, matching Assault helis).

All of these under the GROUPS heading in the GWUT file. However, I've just finished testing and had no luck; I've still got Hinds sitting idle on the tarmac while Supply missions need flying.

What am I missing here? Any help appreciated!

Hm. OK, now it seems to be working! Got a Ka-29 flying a repair job as we speak - much more sensible than it sitting around doing nothing.

Considering doing this myself. In the real world, Hips are used for insertion and can perform in the infantry support role. In fact, it was lessons learned from the Mi-8 that lead to the Mi-24. Chinooks are also routinely used for insertion missions and Blackhawks are used for transport.
