I started to lose interest in this game when I got to the higher tiers. Managed to get my Maus and Tiger 10.5 and Leopard but most of the time, even on a win, I lose money. Grinding up for better equipment is a pain and everyone seems to be on fully-upgraded tanks! Even on the Tiger II BR 6.7 tier, I constantly come across IS-7s, T-54s, and other tanks that I can't really penetrate unless within spitting distance. I felt like I was just there to be fodder for other players.
My son and I decided to try our BR 5.0 Premium tanks and had a bit of fun, but then I loaded up my BR 4.7 tanks by mistake.... and I sure am glad I did! I forgot how zippy those tanks are and at that BR, it seems like most tanks are within a level playing field. Penetration is usually determined by angle and distance, and being able to flank is a possibility considering the tank speed. Even dying well into the map, no big deal as I could be there again within a minute or two.
I did seem to notice that the BR 5.7 tanks seemed a bit too much for us to handle though, so we went down to BR 4.3. Along the way, I picked up the new Dicker Max... and that's when the fun really began! This is how I envisioned Tank Destroyers were supposed to be like. Land a solid hit and tanks go down in one shot! Miss and I need to return to cover for the 15-second reload time. I'm so disappointed with the Jagdpanther and Ferdie being in tiers where they can't really do much, so I was really pleased with the Dicker Max. Plus this tank introduced me to a new way to play... the extent of the depression of the gun is amazing, so much so that it's very easy to pop up with minimal exposure, aim, fire, and be reversing back the slope even before my shell hits! On good games, I can get anywhere from 5-8 kills, great games gets me 10 kills or more.
I went from around 600K Lions to almost 990K now and that's without premium time... goes to show how much fun I've been having returning to lower tiers!
Have had a ton of fun in the M-18 Hellcat. Good gun and great gun depression as mentioned allowing lots of hull down firing positions. I also love the fact that it is almost as fast backwards as it is forwareds:)
You are right about the lower tiers being quite a bit of fun and require some tactics application to prevail.
I only have time and patience for one grind type game but WT has been my choice as of late. I'm still in low tiers and enjoying it quite a bit as a free player.
I'm looking forward to trying some of the conflicts so spending some extra time with Germans, figuring they will be involved in most often.
Presently grinding BR 7.0 German, Tiger II 10.5cm and JagdTiger get the odd good game but most are mismatches. Very slow progress, getting one unlock per night.
The 10.5 Tiger II is useless at what it gets pit up against. It's too slow to flank, it can't pen head on, and everyone else can seem to kill it in a shot or two.
I'm having loads of fun on two tiers now.... Dicker Max and Maus/JagdTiger. Both of these tanks seems to be "Boom! You're dead!" Most stuff I can one-shot, or really cripple. The Maus can shrug off most hits, I just need to remember to look away from whatever might be shooting at me as I reload.... the turret cheeks seem really easy to pen whereas everywhere else isn't. The Dicker Max is very good at hiding behind hills to reload, peek up, fire (dead!!), then go back down again thanks to it's awesome ability to depress the gun. No other German TD comes close, I think. Going back to the beloved StuGs, I just miss the Dicker Max. The JagdTiger is a bit of an odd one here. It has the same gun as the Maus but obviously not a turret. It can turn/run faster than the Maus though so it's not totally useless, plus with interesting angles, I can protect myself a bit. However, the lack of turret really hampers it. It has a spot on my roster just because there's nothing better, though I'm not much farther away to the Jpz 4-5.
Superb Rocketeering sir! Thanks for posting....learnt a lot from that regarding aiming point.
I actually managed to hit summat with my Hurribus rockets last night..... unfortunately he was on my side. Oh the vitriol i recieved from my unfortunate team mate.
I made a risky dive bombing on Berlin map the other day, lined up a tank between houses. Direct hit , only to find out it was a friendly IS2 , oh the shame . He wasn't impressed.
P-47 has a great selection of bombs and rockets. I usually go for two 1000lb bombs and ten rockets.
I managed to get three tanks in one sortie. With good aiming I believe it's possible to destroy four tanks. Maybe five if you get double kill with bombs.
