Can anyone tell me about Kimchi? They sell it in my local Oriental supermarket but the packaging is all in Korean (obviously, duh). I want to know if I eat it straight from the package or need to cook/heat it. I'm on an eastern food binge and having fun making Thai/Malay curries and other spicy stuff. Domestos

I've read long about that and apparently it's a very healty food! I'd love to try some homemade one though. Looks very nice...

I've been to Korean restaurants and I don't remember it being served hot. On grocery Kimchi jars, always ate them cold straight from the fridge.

Learned to like Kimchi when I was stationed in Korea. The spicier the better. No preparation required. Eat it right from the package. Better cold than room temperature. Definitely do not cook or heat.
Good stuff.

Generally cold, but there is a really good "stew" usually called Kimchi Jigae which has it mixed in a hot pot with other stuff which is my favorite. There is a Korean restaurant near me that specializes in "Soondubu" or tofu based hot pot dishes. I always get the Kimchi one too which is one kind of Kimchi Jigae. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimchi_jjigaehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundubu_jjigae

You pay for Kimchi? I get it all the time when I leave lettuce in my fridge too long

kimchi is absolutely delicious but beware of garlic, kimchi smell will stick to your breath overnight
i absolutely love the stuff and eat some every couple nights.
generally it's served together with white rice and / or sliced meat, or as someone above mentioned, kimchi jigae / kimchi nabe (hot pot) which is basically just tons of kimchi put into a pot of broth with other veggies like cabbage and leeks and meat.
korean food is totally under-known in the world, they have got some of the most delicious dishes conceivable, so much meat and spicy stuff!
it's generally served at room temperature, but you can heat it up if you like! it's usually not served piping hot though.
in korea the kimchi is actually served up in the way it was fermented, a big long roll that you have to cut into strips yourself. they give you scissors to cut it at the table at restaurants.

My wife eats kimchi. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Smells like road-kill slathered in sour kraut to me.
