I've been using Adblock Plus for years with Chrome.
There's a war on ad blockers starting up though, some sites now have "ad blocker blockers" and want you to disable your ad blocker.
I refuse to do so.
If I REALLY want to access the page I'll fire up Internet Explorer to see it (I rarely use IE and have no ad blocker installed for it). My poor father... He's 83 and it's so confusing for him to have all these pop-up windows appear on a web page he's browsing. He could be reading an article from our local newspaper's web site and a video for an ad will start, a huge ad will cover the page, or god forbid a 'WINDOWS WARNING' will pop up. I tell him to switch from IE but he won't. I use Firefox with an ad blocker and have no issues. I have seen the warnings from sites recognizing that I have ad blocker but so far no one has prevented me from browsing a site.

What's even more frustrating to explain to some is they don't HAVE to "switch". IE is still there if they "need" it. I myself have encountered other situations not related to Adblock Plus where IE was the better choice. There's no browser that's 100% perfect for 100% of websites.

Any good ideas for ad blockers for Chrome and IE ? For Chrome i can recommend uBlock Origin (the Origin part is important as there is an older fork called uBlock available) together with Tampermonkey. UBlock has an extensive filterlist and Tampermonkey is a script tool that gets rid of a lot of "Anti-Adblock" scripts on Websites. Both together work hand in hand to make the web a much nicer and quieter place.

I've mentioned uBlock Origin here before and would recommend it also for advanced users. If you're using a VPN with chrome, it has a webRTC leak prevention so you don't have to install additional extensions for that. It also has options for privacy and you can load the Disconnect Tracking list.
Never experienced an unwanted ad going through it. I've experienced ads going through AdBlock Plus and AdBlock but not yet this one.

I bit the bullet at grabbed AdBlock Plus for Chrome for use on the site. It was really a tough decision, as the site relies on ad revenue; however, the streaming video ads were making the forum unworkable with lag and freezes.
The day everything went to a stop and the processor went to 100% over some ads was telling. After some testing, it was this site's forum that was causing it, and only this site.
It's back to normal and running well once I put an end to them.
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."

Guys you do NOT NEED any ad blocker... Get your host file set up and you will NEVER see another ad. Using this method for 10 years with no complaints. http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm

Hmm, that's pretty interesting. Going to read more of it later on and maybe give it a shot. My main problem is this site on my tablet though.

Guys you do NOT NEED any ad blocker... Get your host file set up and you will NEVER see another ad. Using this method for 10 years with no complaints. http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm Why in the world would you go through the trouble of modifying your Host file, when a simple browser plugin can do the same job in terms of ads, is installed in less than 10 seconds, which is also being maintained for you. Just reading the first few paragraphs of that site takes longer than installing the addon(s). Then you can also whitelist a site in a jiffy, if you decide to actually support them, instead of going completely scorched earth. Adblockers also have the handy function of being able to permanently block elements of your choosing, on the fly, meaning obnoxious non-ad content can be blocked out, silly site-specific subscriber boxes and what else you have. That just seems like an exercise in overcomplicating things for the sake of it. EDIT: The readme file is even suggesting that you turn off the DNS client service, because large Hosts files "tends to slow down the machine". This is definitely a relic method.
