Caulk up another kill for the mighty Corsair! I think it'll take more than caulk to fix it, maybe some duck tape

They really should stop flying these things, especially the rare ones, because when they are gone, they are gone. And for the benefit of what exactly? Just so you can see it flying gently into the clouds? That's not even what they were built for. If you want to fly them, then do some crazy dangerous maneuvers, that will showcase them for their true purpose. They just lost the beautiful Big Beautiful Doll P51. They will never come back.

With the micro manufacturing skills and 3D scanning that is available, I don't see why they just don't start reproducing exact copies.

I used to feel that way but then you realize that most of the really rare authentic to the last bolt aircraft are already in a museum somewhere. Many of the ones that are flying now and considered as authentic examples are recovered from crash sites and basically rebuilt from the ground up out of whatever was salvageable. For example; P-51B 10NA Impatient Virgin who was recovered from a beet field in the UK [story here] http://historicflight.org/impatient1.html I know that there is a P-61 http://www.maam.org/p61/p61_rest.htm another B-29 http://www.b-29doc.com/ and a few more rare birds out there in various stages of completion that I'm sure all of us would love to see in the air at least once and these are all aircraft that you would never expect to see ever resemble anything more than scrap. I'm pretty sure the zero was one of these as well, I think it's pretty amazing actually that this generation will see some of these old warriors again. http://johnweeks.com/p59/p59pof.html

With the micro manufacturing skills and 3D scanning that is available, I don't see why they just don't start reproducing exact copies. With the dataplate you can rebuild an airframe to original standards. Any original builds would be required to meet current noise and safety standards that most could not meet. The cost of certification of the type would likely be cost prohibitive too. Wheels

Wheels There should be a "reproduction historical aircraft" exemption that lets them be built to the standards effective when the original was built, and which prohibits them from being used to carry passengers for money (no rides at air shows, for example.) It'd be similar to how many states allow antique vehicles to be registered and driven a limited number of miles every year without having to pass annual inspections.
