Hello Guys, Unfortunately I have a big Problem with WOFF. I've installed a fresh Version of Windows 10, made a fresh Install of WOFF, but now the CFS3.exe doesn't work anymore. When a Mission is loading, I get the Error-Message: Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 doesn't work anymore, Game is terminated permanently. I run CFS3.exe as Administrator, also tried Compability-Mode for Windows 7 and Windows XP, but that didn't help either. I have the same Problem with OFF Phase 3. Some Suggestions? Any help would be appreciated...

Duke, thanks for your Reply. Installing DirectX 9 doesn't help either. My Problem is, that I uninstalled WOFF before I changed my Operating System.
I made a fresh Install of Windows 7, without any Drivers or Games or Programs, then installed Windows 10. My thought was to have a complete fresh Operating System, without any old Drivers, everything is new installed.
So after that I installed WOFF, and it didn't work. Game crashed when loading a Mission. And now after several hours of searching the WWW about this Problem, my suggestion is that the old CFS3.exe is NOT compatible with Windows 10, if you make a fresh Installation. There are many CFS 3-Gamers outside in the World, who have the same Problems.
Haven't found a Solution yet, but I will try further.
So please, beware if you make a fresh WOFF-Installation when using Win10. Seems it is a Problem with some Security-Updates.

Ahh. This may be a "Hail Mary" then but it worked for a similar CFS3 era game that I "test installed" on W10 and is something I never would have thought of but it worked and only has to be done when installing. Same exact scenario: SH3 would run fine if already installed but you couldn't install it new. http://www.lsh3.com/v15/dl/LSH3-EDITION-2015-INSTALLATION_EN.pdfScroll down to page 7 reference Nvidia and "Scaling Mode" in the upper left part of the page. Sounds bizarre but it did work at least for SH3...a classic by the way.

If you mean WOFF 1 (you don't specify) but you NEED to install the latest patch v1.27, for Windows 10 compatibility. WOFF 2 is already compatible, but as always install the latest (currently v2.16). ALL THIS IS COVERED IN THE FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) www.overflandersfields.com/Downloads/FAQ%20WOFF.pdf

There is a security update KB3086255 that stops Safedisk DRM and prevents the CD Drive from being run by any program during installation. I think that this function is built into Windows 10 as well and my be what is blocking your fresh install.
Since you said that you have it partially running and then crashes that's probably not the source of your trouble.

You didn't replace the cfs3.exe with a no-cd type did you? That won't work for sure. remove all those settings off cfs3.exe. Make sure WOFF is not installed where CFS3 is either if you installed it.
Check the troubleshooting section in the WOFF FAQ. Send the logs and run dxsetup and use the export function to save the info as a text file and send to support maybe we can look.
Did you install DirectX9 as per the FAQ (section 40 - this needs doing even if you think all is fine).
Pol, I just did a similar fresh Win10 install and have run into these same issues. However, i DID run the no-cd exe on my previous Win10 machine and it was just fine (running WOFF3.8). Now I'm stuck, going through the long list of checks / updates, etc. I got 1.27 to run on the new machine (with the same no-cd exe from my old machine) but by when I updated to 2.16 it all broke (sigh). I've sent in the logs for support to look at. thx H

Hi Dutch, yes I plan to. I was just too exhausted last night, plus I want to make sure I explain each step correctly and in the right order. I should be able to get it up here later today or tomorrow. H

OK here's what I remember, based on some notes I jotted down at the time..although there's one part that has OBD support a little confused** (and may therefore be wrong dues to my aging memory, but still worth a try I think - in fact I could not get WOFF to run without changing the CFS3 exe in the original CFS3 game folder - i kept getting an authorization error before that, whenever WOFF tried to launch a mission or QC)... This is for a FRESH and recent install of Win10 OEM 64bit Home edition from DVD.... 1. Fresh Win10 install straight onto an unformatted hard drive2. Install all mobo drivers. Download / install latest graphics drivers and any essential peripherals drivers (TrackIR etc). 3. Reboot. 4. Install CFS3 from the dual CD. Patch it with the 3.1ENG patch from the OFF website. 5. Reboot. 6. D'load and install the DX Runtime update - June '10 redist from the MS website (do it before installing WOFF). 7. Install WOFF 1. Do not run it. Patch straight to 1.27. Do not run it yet.... 8. Reboot. 9. Open the WOFF toolbox from the OBD / WOFF directory and run the C++ redist fix that's in there 10. Reboot 11. **Replace the CFS3.exe in the MS Games / CFS3 folder with the no-CD 3.1 version. Do NOT touch the one that is in the WOFF folder. I did NOT make any changes to the compatibility settings for the no-cd exe. 12. Run CFS3 to check that it boots (if needed, create a desktop link to the no-cd exe that you just replaced in the MS games /CFS3 folder). 13. Assuming it did boot ok, accept the MS license, continue into the CFS3 game, chuckle at the ancient graphics while you're there and marvel at how OBD have transformed this venerable sim! Change the graphics settings to 32bit / 1920x1080 (assuming your card can handle that). 14. Exit CFS3 and run WOFF 1.27 - hopefully you will now get to the loading screen with the plane schematic and finally be able to run the game! 15. Do a cccleaner registry sweep. 16. Install the WOFF skins expansion pack. 16. Reboot and continue with the upgrades per the FAQ guidelines (V1-V2, then V2-V3, then patch V3 to the latest) 17. Optional: I was super cautious and with each increment I tested and then set system restore points and rebooted before continuing on. 18 Run ccleaner and do a final registry sweep. 18. Run WOFF3 and crack a beer. You've earned it This took me a long time, but at least I have an SSD, which must have saved a ton of additional time between reboots, etc. WOFF3 looks magnificent on my new machine. A solid 60FPS with high details...finally I might actually score some victories . Also, quite early on I set exceptions in Windows Defender, for the OBD and MS Games folders. hope this helps some people! H
