I don't think GOG has a saying on this... The owner can do whatever they want, I'm sure there's a contract with GOG, but nothing (except money) prevents them from breaking said contract and pull the plug on it.

I'm saying that GOG can't really do anything. GOG is not part of the negotiation and has no rights over the game other than selling it. Tommo has, Tommo is the one that ultimately will let things be or screw things up.

Just 2 more irrelevancies this community has to deal with.

Since he/they now own the rights to Falcon, he/they aren't really "irrelevant."

While I would not argue your previous points, adopting that attitude helps nobody, really.

They will need to fix that. And quickly.

Be that as it may, the current IP holder is the current IP holder. He/they can be an ass and clamp down and ruin everybody's fun and we can all complain but at the end of the day, there's nothing anybody can do about it. Or he/they can play nice and allow everything to resume as normal with a few new rules in place.

The BMS team has played it safe by requiring the original .exe as part of the install process, then they played it smart by pulling the installer and making a "cease and desist" post while they sort out stuff with the current IP holder. As part of the BMS community, I think we should follow the dev's example, keep a good attitude, and be patient.

Sounds to me like BMS is being forced to add some kind of code to check IP rights etc (as I predicted).

The Falcon Collection is going for less than $10 on GOG. Even supposing the worst situation: one has to buy the GOG edition in order to play BMS, that still looks like a fantastic bargain to me.

Tommo/Retroism's Distribution of Falcon is not exclusive nor limited to GoG,

GoG being a requirement is m00t as the Falcon Collection is distributed Digitally via more than one storefront.

Doesn't sound like that to me at all. Even if it did, you automatically assume GoG is involved? How exactly are you going to check IP rights on a software? "Nope, I can't install BMS because my copy of Falcon 4.0 is the original disc and not the GoG one".... pfft!

EDIT: FYI, I have both the Falcon 4.0 disc and GoG copy. I also have both the Art of the Kill book in PDF and dead-tree format. Even if I did not have the GoG copy and suddenly the BMS team said "I'm sorry but you'll have to buy the GoG copy to install Falcon BMS 4.34," the £6.89 it costs to buy the Falcon Collection is still WAY cheaper than other titles and still gives WAY more hours of fun... just IMHO.

So... might not be ideal, but still not end of the world.

Having said that, nothing is certain until we hear from the BMS team.

In short, any valid copy of Falcon 4.0 must be installed (and left installed) in order for BMS to operate. If you do not have a valid copy, one can be purchased from many sources such as Steam, GoG, eBay, etc...

Hmmm... interesting new restriction, but something that shouldn't really be a problem for legit owners. I wonder how it will check for a legit copy though.... I mean, what if I install a copy of Falcon 4.0 from a CD, then use that same CD on 10 other computers so my friends can also fly Falcon 4.0? Is there like a serial number that each copy has that BMS can check? Still, they mention that the checks are performed locally and can be done without internet connection...

Not advocating piracy at all, just saying people might still find ways around this.... for those too stingy to pay £6.99 for the Falcon Collection on GoG/Steam. Amazing how, for just about the same as a Subway mean, you can get one of the best sims evah!
