They'll rock it like McDonald's rocks anywhere, it's an easy quick place for lazy people in a hurry to grab something for their craw before work And pay 4 bucks for it. With Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's coffee being quite good and for half the price I'm surprised Starbucks is still around. Yes, but that only works for people that drink coffee while commuting to work in the morning. No idea if Italians do that but I'd say "no". But, BUT, FlashBurn, you are severely underestimating the power of TV, movies and hype in general. People do what they see on TV. Period. "Hey! Starbucks, like in the movies! Lets try it out! We're so modern." Around here, small town, we have a Subway... When they opened I thought "who the hell would think that buying a Subway franchise was a good idea? They'll go under in a month. I can buy a sandwich the length of my arm for the same price just around the corner". I was wrong.
When you're feeling sad, just remember that somewhere in the world, there's someone pushing a door that says "pull".

The only way to eat any kind of long pasta is with a fork and spoon and don't you dare break the pasta in half before putting it in the pot of boiling water. OMFG! Why would you brake the pasta!?

You don't but I've seen them do it at restaurants where they have an open kitchen and you can sit there and watch them make everything: Roman Macaroni Grill, Carrabba's and several others. I also seen them do it on cooking shows. It's a sacrilege when they break the long pasta, any long pasta: spaghetti, linguine, fettuccine, angel hair, tagliatelle, capellini, fusilli, vermicelli, etc.

Starbucks has so far ignored the Italian market, with good reason, and I predict that Starbucks will generally fail in Italy, but might have some success in places like Naples, Aviano, Vicenza, Sigonella, Gaeta..... Now guess why! The only edible "American" pizzas are New York-Neapolitan style ones.

I completely disagree on the pizza... Sorry more random from me... So there I was in desert.... One of my buddies was stationed in Italy for awhile and with nothing better to do we where talking about food. He would not shut up about pizza from Naples. How it was SO much not like pizza back home and SO much better. I have managed to have some legit Italian style stuff over here. And ya, I think its way better. No cheese, no crazy sauces drowning everything. Just goodness on something more like flat bread. Not to say I have not had some really kick arse US style pizza. Ya I have. But they are SO different from one another that one needs a name change as they are not the same thing. I do not get the Starbucks thing either when you might have an excellent roaster/maker 1/2 a block away that blows charbucks out of the water by a long shot and yet there it is, filled up with people. Oh and charges less too... I've had pizza all over Italy and its typically just a pie crust sparsely topped with leftovers, often none too fresh at that. If you find a place that puts more effort into it, its decent but nothing memorable.

Well we live in a world that's far more tolerant to change and free thinking then ever before. It may sound or seem like that, but it ain't really true If you eat spaghetti with a spoon in my household I will ask WTF you're doing.

I don't want this to devolve into a fight- it's really not worth it, I mean it's just your opinion and there's nothing wrong with that. I just wish I took a picture of every pizza I had (which is kind of a lot!) and I'm sure we could agree on a middle ground! Next time you drop by just gimme a ring, I'll show you a good place, no matter where you go.

I cut all my pasta into bite size pieces before cooking so I don't need a knife when I eat. Easier when it's dry or frozen.

I did the same thing to my family a few years back. You didn't happen to see a suave English butler in your bathroom recently did you?
