I figure at this point in time and with your hardware setup (and if your only game is WOFF), either operating system will serve you well. The downside to sticking with Windows 7 that I see is Microsoft will make programs like DirectX 12 which is compatible with Windows 10 and 8, but not 7. Then as time goes on, the more they make for Windows 10, the more the Windows 7 people will loose out.

+1 to what OldHat said. All the newer driver updates for video cards, etc will come out on Windows 10 first and some features for older OS like Windows 7 might not ever become available. At some point, it will be essentially required to move to Windows 10, which is why I did it while it's still free. If I have to go, at least I don't have to pay for it right now. I'm sure a subscription service to Windows 10 will eventually happen, but that's the way the industry is going...unless you only want to play games and then you can get a Steambox - which is just a whole other version of "big brother."

Oh I am conflicted.
If someone could say "5% FPS improvement in W10 for WOFF" I would be there in a second but I have nothing to dislike about W7. Been quite stable and works with everything...so far...and WOFF plays fine.
Anyone know how long the "free upgrade" to W10 is going on for?

Duke, I am of the same mind in needing more information.

I still have a "boat load" of M$ nag ware and other downloads waiting for me to do something with.

If this is still gets positive comments over the next few days I will be tempted to go with Win 10.

The question I have now is how to proceed.Install all of my W$ stored downloads and then click on
the "blue box" and say yes to W10, followed by ---- and that is where I run out of knowledge on how to
proceed.

A road map of how to go from W7 to W10 would be nice.

.

CW3SF, W10 is an entirely new OS, not an upgrade. As long as you have the prompt saying you can click and upgrade you shouldn't need to do anything with your W7. When W10 installs it will save your entire old W7 in a folder labelled 'window.old', just in case you wish to revert back. However, in a month it will dump that folder as it assumes you are happy with the new OS by then.

Keep in mind I am not advocating that you switch if you are content with your current set-up. I am only giving you info based on my recent switch.

As I previously mentioned I dumped W10 and went back to W7 because of extremely long boot times [just under 3 minutes on an SSD].With Russkly's encouragement I tried it again using the same upgrade method and now get a boot up of 23 seconds, 4 seconds faster than W7.

I recently got a new gaming rig and have had no problems with WOFF.
