While it is absolutely gorgeous- I'm afraid I can't afford that either.
Now... where was that Dark Web page to sell kidneys?
Don't sell both of them mate!

$800??
I guess I'll be sitting this, and OR, out for now. Maybe there will be a Christmas 2016 sale on Vive or OR.

Now that the price is confirmed, I'm definitely going with the Vive. I had 1.5 years with the Oculus DK2 and after that I simply can't sim on monitors anymore. Anyone simming should at least give it a go if they can find someone near them with an Oculus/Vive. Don't You believe the Oculus is a better option? Taking into account future Cliffs support and being a seated solution more fitting for sims?

Vive definitely has the leg up for cockpit users. The fwd facing camera/Tron mode will allow you to peek at your HOTAS/joystick/steering wheel/kbm/MFD's/beer bottles/etc without taking off the headset. Being able to answer the phone without taking off hmd is pretty neat, not to mention at some point Lighthouse dev kits will be coming out (from a conversation with Alan Yates last Makers Fair), allowing us to add tracking to our own controllers or even make our own input devices using the tracking plus the base stations are passive whereas Constellation cameras need to not only be hooked to the puter, but through 'Oculus ready' USB3.0. SteamVR supports Oculus SDK but not the other way around and there's little you will be able to do with Oculus that Vive can't also do (Eve Valkyrie is the only hardware locked game I know of so far) and it offers a lot more to sim junkies IMO. Of course once proper AR is out that will be the goto sim device, or even when Virvana (stereoscopic passthrough + inside out tracking) has their headset available it too will be better than either Rift or Vive, but for now Vive is the one to have or try to beat and Oculus is busy playing catchup. It was announced earlier today that SteamVR will also support Oculus with Chaperon, but still no fwd camera so pretty much a moot point for cockpits.

I didn't, but those controls and room wide sensors add to the price. Now that the price is confirmed, I'm definitely going with the Vive. Don't You believe the Oculus is a better option? Taking into account future Cliffs support and being a seated solution more fitting for sims? Who says seated position is worse for Vive? You don't need to be standing or need a 5 foot room for the Vive. Vive IS a seated solution as well as standing. Game support is yet to be determined. I didn't, but those controls and room wide sensors add to the price.

The Vive is really a nice package overall. However, as a sim player primarily, I definitely want the Rift because of Async Time Warp. Most people know how simulators aren't usually good at being able to stick to their framerates and that's where time warp is going to be crucial. Plus the Rift is lighter, which helps when going on long flights. I would absolutely hate to play a sim that can't stick to its framerate without a time warp like feature. Valve seems to be using on-the-fly fidelity switching, which needs to be added by the game, so fat chance of that happening in most simulators. So for most simmers, the Rift is what you want for the best experience, in my opinion. From Team Fusion's post on their added Rift support; 5.- FPS is and is not an issue. Yes, higher FPS gives a smoother feeling but, thanks to the OR timewarp, one can be on the deck, over London with 13 FPS and not get seasick. Attempt that without a mitigating feature like time warp, you'd get woozy pretty quickly.

Another misleading post. The article compares the Vive with the Samsung GearVR, and other mobile VR devices. He does mention the Oculus Rift, but he makes no mention of actually trying one.

Another misleading post. The article compares the Vive with the Samsung GearVR, and other mobile VR devices. He does mention the Oculus Rift, but he makes no mention of actually trying one. My post is not misleading at all. Just copy and paste. I'm not misleading anyone or making any comment on the article. The articles title is "No contest: HTCs Vive VR experience is miles ahead of everything else" You are misinforming everyone by mentioning Oculus, which neither I or the title mention. Who other than you said it was about Oculus? Your post per se is not misleading, but the article's headline is. Claiming the Vive is better than "everything else" in the headline and not even giving a comparison to it's only real competition, the OR, is very misleading.

The articles title may well be misleading, and that seems to be the consensus here. I'm not arguing its not misleading. I was falsely accused of a misleading post. I misled no one. False accusation.
I'm not taking sides in the childish little feud you and Chivas have going on but if you choose to post an article that has a misleading headline it's your own fault.

Does that mean Vive works with DCS out of the box (or are DCS going to support both OR and Vive)?

I have to ask Icarus1....why does almost every single one of your posts centre around the Vive?
Ummmmm...........its a Vive thread. Why would they be about anything else? I'm talking about every VR post....even outside of this thread - you're like a Vive salesman!

3 HTC Vive is the most compelling tech experience Ive ever had: Hands down, the HTC Vive is the most immersive, most emotional experience Ive ever had."
if im right, comparing the two, spec are identical so it's all about whether you need walkaround feature or not and people who doesnt will go for cheaper one, Oculus.

It would not be the first time that two things looked the same on paper but one performed better than the other in reality.
