Congrats (kinda sorta) on the kinda sorta refueling!
I just started playing around with DCS again, and haven't even tried, but I'm sure I'd suck at it, so I think you've really accomplished something. lol, thanks! Ironically enough, I find it way easier to refuel hose/drogue in DCS than I do using the Boom. IRL, I suspect more turbulence and "smarter" boom operators is why the opposite is true. my main issue now is staying connected. the connection seems very finicky, as any movement of the basket (I generally try to edge forward a bit post contact, to give the line some slack) breaks the connection. Seems I'm not alone: On the ED forums, folks are mentioned that tankers (both the basket draggers) speed up when you make contact to what appears to be a set speed of 320 knots. They then slam back to whatever speed the waypoint action is set at in the editor. Odd thing is same folks are reporting the issue isn't prevalent in the Russian fighters. I know the M2KC is in beta, but it's odd the MK2C itself is the issue, not the tanker AI coding. It's tough to set the wayoint speed to 320 (so there's no pre/post contact speed delta), as it seems the editor uses ground speed, not air speed to set the waypoint action speed. In an ideal world, the tanker AI would adapt based on who's saddling up to the bar. I've not played much with the boomers, but do they adapt speeds and such to their clientelle? Eg. slow to a crawl for the A-10, clean up and speed up for the F-15s?

I have friends who flew KC-135's, let me ask them. That's a very good question though. Also, congrats on the refueling! I was trying to build a mission this weekend to do the same thing in the Mirage, but couldn't get all the bits and pieces to work. Would you be willing to share your mission?

Happy to share my mission file when I'm back in front of my rig, but you might have better luck asking on the ED thread here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=161087Seems others have the taker speed issue worked out. It's on my to-do list to ask that crowd for a mission file actually.

I saw these pics posted on another site - pretty crazy refueling maneuvering, so I'm guessing yes, it's probably easier in RL. Damn! That seems pointlessly dangerous though. If a race track bend is coming up, wouldn't it make more sense to return to pre-contact? You've got the largest bomber in inventory hooked up to a giant flying fuel tank. Doesn't seem like the time to play fighter jock... That also backs up my theory that one of the things 'wrong' with DCS refueling, is that the boom doesn't establish a solid enough connection between tanker and taker. IIRC, it was common practice to have the tanker 'tow' a wounded bird home in Vietnam via the boom, so clearly it's some pretty solidly built hardware. I imagine the boomer can even maneuver the taker to a limited extent. If nothing else, I'd think this also means the pilot can relax a tad, as the boom now provides a bit of stability. In DCS, maybe I'm doing it wrong, but it doesn't ever feel like contact yields this solid connection. At least with the basket I get a few seconds where the hose goes a bit limp, indicting my probe is 'holding' it.
