I saw their promo vid earlier and checked out their kickstarter page.

I hope they get this off the ground as I particularly like the WW2 setting, however I think their promo video is lacking. There seems very little to show at the moment, I know its pre alpha but the animation of movement in game seems particularly poor.

This video is their chance to showcase and sell their game! Currently I don't feel they are doing that well enough.

It also does not tell me much about how they intend to make this game work. They mention the number of maps and intense gameplay, but how do they intend to achieve this? Are the maps going to be corridor style so your getting funneled into specific areas ( god I hope not ), are they going to have specific objectives that will encourage team play?

I'd like to back this but I would like to see a bit more substance first. I've backed quite a few games now through kickstarer and such, so maybe I'm a little more weary of devs that promise the earth but deliver very little.

Yeah, only Sniper Elite has visited this era since CoD: WaW and that was lackluster.

My favorite is still Hidden and Dangerous, balancing that line between WWII ArmA and WWII CoD.

I'd buy a modern version of H&D in a heartbeat... as long as they stayed with the types of combatants and scenarios in the first and second versions

There's about three of these games in perenial development at the moment. Traction wars, festung Europa.

I wish they'd all pool their resources to actually produce something

It's nice to dream, but I know it's not going to happen. frown

Yes I know... I spent many happy hours on those games.
Still, as you say, nice to dream...

It could happen. With Early Access and Kickstarter programs there might be a group of like-minded individuals who want to create a spiritual successor to the Hidden and Dangerous series. There's lots of niche and garbage titles that get funded. But man its got to be the right group of indie developers. Some of the old 2KCzech/Illusion Softworks guys as I understand it are behind the upcoming Kingdom Come: Deliverance game.

Does it have a single player gameplay mode (such as a career/campaign)?
NO IT DOESN'T! So I simply don't care, Period.

I don't know that's the matter with all these Online-only WWII shooters which pop up like mushrooms nowadays. If someone put all these Online-only WWII shooters combined together into one they wouldn't even be half as good as a good WWII shooter like H&D (which was already mentioned here).

Nevertheless and to end my rambling, NO single player, NOT good for me! Simple as that...

I'd rather have a sp campaign too but if its Red Orchestra quality with attention to weapons details its something I could enjoy.

Well they have reached their funding goal ( and then some ) and they haven't mentioned any stretch goals yet but have mooted that they are going to announce something soon.

I doubt whether that would include any form of single player mode, I would honestly be happy with a good co-op mode like Brothers In Arms.

I hope it goes well, I might yet back this, but I also wonder about how much they are asking. £100k is not very much, in the scheme of things. I'm guessing they already have private backing to have got them to this point. ( They have already paid for mocap, etc, it would seem ).

So the question is, how far along are they? Because 100K or even 150K is not going to last long if your paying wages for a team of devs with another year to 2 years development.

But the Kickstater point that game are focused in MP:

"
Battalion 1944 resurges World War 2 back into the modern gaming spotlight in our spiritual successor to the great multiplayer shooters of the past such as Call of Duty 2 and Enemy Territory.

... a well balanced WW2 first person shooter.

... to earn rewards and extra XP."

Sounds like the same ole, same ole.

No one is willing to take any risks anymore and actually make something different and engrossing. Just another cookie cutter, run and shoot MP game.

Has anybody else kickstarted? I did, it says I did, but my card hasn't been charged yet. It's been a couple of weeks already. Just curious if anybody has been charged yet?

Well I bit the bullet ( I'm so weak )

...As regards being charged, you dont get charged until the funding period is over ( and succesful of course ), well thats my understanding of how it works anyways.

When I donated to a Kickstarter for "Matchstick", a Roku/Chromecast dongle using Linux, plus a bunch of other great features, they took my money right away. They refunded it after they decided to go another direction.

Hmmmm, thats odd, I'm not sure its meant to work that way.

I've KS'd 8 projects and as far as I can remember never had my money taken straight away. 3 of those projects were unsuccesful and no money was ever taken for those either.

I was looking into this. I have to say, I hope they gain some experience with the actual small arms involved, first hand. I just saw the screenshot of the "down the barrel" view of the M1 rifle.

It is always the same- the rear sight ring is quite large and the front sight swims in it. That's not the correct sight picture at all, on a practical level or an actual diametric level.
