210* FOV and 5K dual displays. These are awesome specs
I had originally wrote off StarVR for the time being, for two reasons

1. the difficulty of driving two very high resolution displays at a high enough frame rate.
2. The large clunky headset.

Their major resolution problem can now be greatly alleviated with their partnership with an eye tracking company, which will allow them to only drive 5k resolution where your eyes are focused. They've also made considerable progress in optimizing their software to drive those pixels.

That said will they be able to release their product before Oculus and Vive release much improved next gen versions. Oculus has by far the largest R&D department in VR, and have been working on higher FOV's, and eyetracking for sometime.

The future looks good for flight sims, no matter who makes the best VR headsets.

That's a very interesting interview. I'd never thought about not rendering everything else outside of your focus.

I've personally filed all of this under "believe it when I see it"

Good news is, since it'll take them years to get this thing off the ground (if they ever do), I'm betting GPUs will have started to catch up to the demands by then. If VR takes hold like many are predicting, I suspect it'll set off a late 90s/early 00's style GPU cold war, with AMD and Nvidia finally "putting their back into it" in terms of hardware advancement.

Only if the sims support the headsets. We need some Next Gen flight sims as well as the next gen displays biggrin . I know DCS supports the Rift already, hopefully that means it'll be easier to implement other HMDs when they are out.

DCS is also currently looking at supporting the Vive. No much word on how the implementations are going for either HMD other than saying the Rift CV1 is a huge improvement over the Rift DK2. It is good to know that DCS has a consumer level Rift, rather than still working with the DK2.
