http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2498097,00.asp] That means if you buy a PC with these upgraded chipsIntel's "Kaby Lake," Qualcomm's "8996," and AMD's "Bristol Ridge"they will only run Windows 10; you can't downgrade to Windows 7 or 8.1. Discuss..

Well, it wouldn't be a big deal if M$ gets their act together and fixes Win10.

So I want to buy a Gaming PC like the one for $699 they have on sale this week at Fry's. http://www.frys.com/ads/page115#AdNaviBut it's Windows 10. Do you think I can find someone to build me one without W10?

not a big deal, if they attempt to force this on users, linux based solutions will take over the world for desktop computing.
And what about PC gamers? Most games don't run on Linux.

Intel/AMD is not so stupid they will limit the OS for their CPU's to Windows 10 only. It's just MS propaganda machine trying to tell people that Windows 10 is the only option - which of course is false!
Old CPU's will still work with Windows 10 (maybe not with all features) and new CPU's will still work with Windows 7/8 and Linux.

History says that won't happen, because it would've happened by now.
The most user friendly Linux is called OSX and it certainly hasn't taken the world by storm. Look how few games are on Mac as well as Windows.

^ Yes, you are right, of course.
But maybe, when the pain gets too strong?
We have Win7 here, behind a domain. The update packets for Win 10 have already installed. Can't stop it. One of the clients' SSD is completely full, since it's a small 60 Gb one, and most work is done via network and file servers. MS has spared active production systems until now, but it seems the urge to evangelize has become too strong.
I have Win 10 pro at home, and it wants to write home every second, traffic can be watched on the router. I have turned it all off, but Cortana still runs, impossible to kill the PID. After killing it eight times, it stays off for some minutes. Further you can only shut down ALL reports, if you have the Win 10 Enterprise version. Who has that, at home.
It gets frightening as soon as a microphone is attached. They clearly state that anything on your PC can and will be sent, or at least information about it. They will also shut down or de-install any program they think does not belong to you, or the PC. They will also send data to the police, if they see fit. That is written lieterally, in the new EULA.
This is self-evident with mobile phones, but on my PC? My photos, my personal texts. And companies, industrial secrets? With a processor and/or other hardware tailored for Win 10, they can eavesdrop on you in realtime, 24 hours a day. This kind of strategy opens the floodgates to anything.
And it is not even necessary to get personal texts from you, metadata are enough. "Advanced-cloud-based-behavior-analytics method", soon coming to your home. Google it.

Agree 100% with you Catfish. That is truly frightening and it's the kind of stuff that people like Beria and Goebbels would have absolutely loved to utilize had they been alive today.
