Wait... is that a duckface?
There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

How come the U.K. doesn't have a space program? Because we didn't get Wernher von Braun.Besides, any space program we did have would be cancelled by our government at some point.

How come the U.K. doesn't have a space program? Perhaps they found the idea of the sun setting on the ISS 15 times (or so) per day to be unpalatable... I don't get it. I am not British and I've only been to London a handful of times, most of the time just passing through the big airport to catch a connecting flight. British humor is lost on me. I remember watching Benny Hill on TV and not laughing at his stand up type monologues but the dancing girls scenes and the chasing gags with the funny Benny Hill music in the background, those are funny.

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead? Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick. Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake. No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

I have to say that wouldn't be my first choice for a sandwich but slap some cheese and mayo in it and I'm all over it.
It's a Victorian thing I think and is actually the opposite to what you are thinking CG2015.The poorer classes would prefer something a little more substantial in their sandwich. There is little nutritional value in them.Cucumber sandwiches were something for the upper-class to consume with their afternoon tea.

I suspect that back in the day it was just thinly sliced cucumber in buttered bread.Maybe nowadays some extras could be thrown in to make it more 'interesting'.It's certainly not something us Brits would consume on a daily basis.Probably more suited at Harrods or similar for afternoon tea if you have 39 to spare.

It was a reference to the old saying from past British glory days, "The sun never sets on the British empire!".
