Very cool pic.

Wait... is that a duckface?

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

How come the U.K. doesn't have a space program?

Perhaps they found the idea of the sun setting on the ISS 15 times (or so) per day to be unpalatable... wink

Because we didn't get Wernher von Braun.Besides, any space program we did have would be cancelled by our government at some point.

I don't get it.

I am not British and I've only been to London a handful of times, most of the time just passing through the big airport to catch a connecting flight.

British humor is lost on me.

I remember watching Benny Hill on TV and not laughing at his stand up type monologues but the dancing girls scenes and the chasing gags with the funny Benny Hill music in the background, those are funny.

Tea time might get awfully complicated too.

From the Telegraph-

That Farrow bloke you executed today, are you sure he's dead?
Well I chopped his head off, that usually does the trick.
Yes, don't get clever with me Baldrick. I just thought you might have lopped off a leg or something by mistake.
No, the thing I chopped off had a nose.

Speaking of tea time. I also don't understand the culinary appeal of cucumber sandwiches.

You put a slice or slices of cucumbers between 2 slices of bread.

Is this like leftover from when the general populace were mostly poor peasants and couldn't afford to eat meat or had no access to meat sources?

I have to say that wouldn't be my first choice for a sandwich but slap some cheese and mayo in it and I'm all over it.

It's a Victorian thing I think and is actually the opposite to what you are thinking CG2015.The poorer classes would prefer something a little more substantial in their sandwich. There is little nutritional value in them.Cucumber sandwiches were something for the upper-class to consume with their afternoon tea.

Do they put anything else on there besides bread and cucumber?

Maybe a french dressing or mustard?

I suspect that back in the day it was just thinly sliced cucumber in buttered bread.Maybe nowadays some extras could be thrown in to make it more 'interesting'.It's certainly not something us Brits would consume on a daily basis.Probably more suited at Harrods or similar for afternoon tea if you have 39 to spare.

The UK is a member of the European Space Agency. We did have a space programme of our own, but it was cancelled due to cost.

The UK pioneered jet engine powered pasenger flight. And lost out with the Comet disasters. Apparently we shared the findings of the inquiry internationally. We also gave our jet engine research to the Russians, since we'd given it to the US. Spirit of fairness, old chap.

The UK's attempt on breaking the sound barrier was cancelled and some American chap got the fame.

We had a space program, but funding was cut since there was no idea of the commercial possibilities of space. It was another world back then.

Also, Cucumber sandwiches should be cut into quarters most delicate.

It was a reference to the old saying from past British glory days, "The sun never sets on the British empire!".
