That sounds really interesting, but the author says it won't run at all on Win8. Does anybody know of any kind of work-around to get it to work on Win8?

JimBobb: I checked over at A2A, they have a preview of patch 2.13, but I could not locate the patch ? BoB was one of my favorites although hard to run. I still have the manual for it somewhere.

It is one of my favorite too. I have it still installed on my computer patched to 2.12. I did even participate a little bit with coding/debugging for BDG group in the past, shortly before A2A took whole project commercially.

I've been using the Beta version of 2.13 since it became available. No problems with it in Win7, but a no go with Win10 due to crashes when using alt-x. Beta version is still available here, I think:

Or you can wait until the final one-step installer is ready.

An all time favourite of mine since its inception. I have BOB 2.11 on my old computer.VISTA. BOB 2.13 is of no use to me on my newer rig because of WIN 8.1. I believe that BOB II has died a glorious death with WIN 7 R.I.P

I'm not sure, but I think some have got it working on Windows 10.

Apparently the Win10 alt-x crash depends on your graphics settings. Haven't tried it myself. See this:

Released today. http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=51298

WOFF and BOBII are my most played sims. You just can't beat their single player AI or immersion.

WOFF is still my all time favorite, though I occasionally fire up IL2 CloD, EECH, BMS Falcon, or various DCS modules.

Since no one really answered my question, is it safe to assume that it just won't work with Win8.1 and I should just forget about trying to run this?

Banjoman,

According to their installation readme:

Note 7: The minimum requirements for BoBII have changed very significantly since initial release. To run 2.13 successfully we recommend Win XP/7, 2Gb RAM, 1Gb Video card, strong Dual or Quad Core processor. Alas, BoBII is still unable to run reliably on Win8/8.1. It has been reported that it works OK with Win10. Investigation of Win10 is ongoing, please check the forum, both General and Tech Supt, for the latest.

Hope this helps.

BirdDogICT, thanks for the information, looks like I won't be playing this one.

Glad to see BoBII is still plugging along. I tried it out, all to briefly I must say, on my Windows 7 machine a few years back. To be honest I don't even remember buying the thing but it looked like a great sim. Lots of atmosphere but one of the most unstable things I ever installed. Followed all of the steps, ticked the right check boxes, set all of the appropriate compatibility settings and still lost the thing 9 times out of 10.

So, for what it is, I'll stick to some dynamic campaigns over Britain in IL-2 1946 for the time being.

Totally OT: but are any of the newer IL-2 games worth looking into? I'm playing catch up with about 5-7 years of game development since picking up my new rig last fall! mycomputer

For online playing the IL-2 Cliffs of Dover with the latest TF patch is the best, in my opinion. Nice graphics, quite high realism (aircraft systems modeling).
