From today's newsletter. DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range Map Update
We continue working on improvements to the Nevada map that includes fixing bugs and implementing new features. The following will be available in the coming months:
Add Tonopah Air Force Base Add additional casino/hotels to the Las Vegas strip Add additional airfields and landing strips to the central (detailed) portion of the map Add the National Training Center (NTC) Improved grass and ground clutter Other smaller improvements When these additional features are added and the module is final, the cost of the map will likely increase. However, these new features will be free to those that already own the map.

$160. You give me the money and yes I will leave. But I want the money from you alone. Then you can see what it's like to have spent that much money on empty promises.
DCS Kickstarter Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable." Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."

Sweet looks like we are getting a bit of an expansion after all. Yes but when? In the coming months could mean anything. And don't forget..."Everything is subject to change"

They are adding Ft Irwin, CA and it's training ranges? Talk about a good idea to use with Combined Arms! That would be awesome.

Of coarse. This time the "everything is subject to change" worked in our favor. They changed their mind about adding to the map. I can still see the hike price being an issue for some people though.

get it now if you are worried about an increase.
if you dont like it once the expanding is done, sell it to someone else (just not on ED forums).

NTTR expansion is nice, but ED needs to work on the DCS World to make it truly multi-map. 1.5 and 2.0 are both single map interfaces. The encyclopedia needs to be made map centric. Mission editor needs to start with a map select when first entered. Should campaigns be multi-map (ie. missions starts in Nevada and end in Black Sea)? I don't see these issues being addressed in 2.0. DCS2.0 Support Multiple Maps, Caucaus is being ported to the new terrain format for 2.0 and will join 2.0 when Ready.

I just hope this isn't going to set a precedent for the future release of maps to have a $50 base price and then payware additions or micro-transactions to expand it. There will be no microtransactions for the expanded NTTR, if you paid for it already, the expanded part is part of the map, once the expanded and rebuilt parts are finished, the price will likely go up for anyone that hasnt purchased it already.

No matter what the price is currently, the buyer should ask themselves "is it worth it?" As always the buyers dictates the market. I have no problem with ED selling the map for as much as takes to maximize their profit. I think it's worth mentioning that they basically gave the map away free to a good portion of its consumers (A-10 beta owners). That's a big hole that won't be there in future maps.
So let's assume that ED listened to the communities pleas for adding some more content to this beautiful map that wasn't part of the original deal. What is wrong with them asking to be compensated for putting in the extra effort to accommodate the community. That's a trend I personally do not mind.
On the subject of the campaign, this is my first campaign purchase and I can tell already it really is well done so far(one mission in). It gives the NTTR purpose besides just being the map that was taken away from beta owners.

I'm not talking about NTTR. I'm hoping this isn't testing the water whereby future maps receive payware updates.
Whats the final price of NTTR or a future map going to be? $60, $70, $80.....is this a one-off update?....is there going to be more than one update and associated price increase each time?
What makes ED think they can release unfinished work and keep increasing the price until the point they call it finished?
I don't recall this mechanism ever being mentioned - are they testing the community to see how far they can be pushed? Do they actually know what the finished NTTR looks like?
Buying something and then seeing if they think it is worth it but then selling on if they don't like it is (as per your previous recommendation) is not really a valid proposal at all.
Whilst NTTR has undoubted quality, I'm curious as to why ED are going down this route and hope its not something that will be repeated.
Whilst I understand that different people/skillsets/resources won't always be employed on the same areas of work I also have reservations about the new campaign published in the newsletter.
I said a while ago in another post that mini campaigns would be a very easy and profitable money-spinner for ED and I hope it's not taking away the focus from all the other unfinished work that won't necessarily generate more funds on release.
If we see more and more of these payware campaigns being pushed out without any real movement on the larger 'DCS World' then I guess I'll have my answer. This is why the map making tools are not going to be released to the community. One of the biggest issues with dcs has always been the lack of maps. ED are going to be releasing new maps, at huge financial cost, to the community because they know that their customers will pay highly for anything new. Nttr is very poor value for money as it is. Now they want to increase the price. I saw this coming when they decided to keep the map making tools from the community.
