They waited till 11 of the 13 episodes aired, so they didn't make a snap decision. The ratings were pretty awful. Peaked at the premiere with 2.0, dropped to below 1.3 average since November...
Still, I think they needed more classic characters. The only one with a major role is Noah? Not the best idea.

It hasn't really grabbed us (wife and I). It's pretty much like mutant registration type X-Men stuff.
Only HRG is likable, the few other original characters they even brought in are either in very small roles or changed too much.
It was a mistake centering so much of the start on Claire, and what's her name wasn't even on the show. LOL It was just weird.
Too bad. It was a great show that first season of the original. They just didn't know how to keep it going.

Yes, the original season was so awesome and the later seasons so disappointing (especially 4) in contrast.
Not many other series I can think of that went from hero to zero that fast. Even S2 was a drop.

I consider Heroes S1 and the first 3 of 24 required viewing. 2 & 3 of 24 mainly to finish the Nina story, the 1st season was incredible other than the CoUgaR and amnesia.

Too bad. It was a great show that first season of the original. They just didn't know how to keep it going. Hayden Pannettiere, lol she makes more off one episode of Nashville, than a whole season on Heroes. The main character (her son) would have left the show anyway, as he has a contract with ABC and will be in the entire 2nd half and 1st half of next Season on Once Upon a Time.

NBC stated this was simply a mini series to fill a seasonal time slot and never had a chance of getting a 2nd season.
it was written to be 13 episodes, no cliff hangers.
