The MiG-21 wouldn't have been kept in such numbers if it hadn't been supplemented by newer designs such as the -23, -27 and -29.

We likely to have 21 fighters by the end of 2016. That not counting the 3 helicopters and 3 Trainers available. Biggest holes are 3rd Gen fighters, a Korea map, and a Southeast Asia map.

5th Gen: None

4th Gen:
  • DCS A-10C (Note: Flys like a 1st Gen T jet)
  • DCS Mirage 2000 C (in open beta by Razbam)
  • DCS F/A-18C (in development by ED)
  • DCS Harrier (in development by Razbam)
  • DCS F-14A/B (in development by Leatherneck)
  • Flaming Cliffs aircraft:
    • A-10A
    • SU-25
    • F-15
    • Mig-29
    • SU-27
    • SU-33
    • SU-25T
  • DCS Black Sea map
  • DCS Nevada map (in open alpha by ED)

3rd Gen:
  • DCS Mig-21bis (Release by Leatherneck)
  • DCS F-5 (in development by Belsimtek)
  • DCS Black Sea map

2nd Gen:
  • F-86F (release by Belsimtek)
  • Mig-15bis (release by Belsimtek)

1st Gen/WWII:
  • DCS P-51D (release by ED)
  • DCS Bf-109K (release by ED)
  • DCS FW-190D (release by ED)
  • DCS P-47N (in development by ED)
  • DCS Spitfire Mk9 (in development by ED)
  • DCS ME-262 (in development by ED)
  • DCS Normandy Map (in development by ED)

If memory serves correctly, Wags did say there would be no updates until at least end of 2015.

How many would that actually be if we subtract the ground attack aircraft you listed (A-10A, A-10C, Su-25, Su-25T), the Flaming Cliff planes, and take into account that so far we'd be lucky to see Razbam finishing the Mirage this year, let alone completing another fighter?

If DCS level 4th generation fast jet fighters only count, there just the unfinished Mirage 2000C. I personally think the F/A-18C will be late 2016.

I am waiting for the first couple of patches for the Mirage before judging Razbam productivity.

No danger of him being proven wrong there!

On the other hand, ED did provide a small number of updates on the Hornet in some of the newsletters ... again, IIRC.

Pictures from different angles of a FC3 level cockpit. That's not much to show for after years of claiming they're working on it.

Would screenshots of lines of codes be more to your liking?

Didn't think so.

What, around 6 years of claiming to be working on it and they still can't show off anything more than the F-16 and Hinds that they were totally going to "release soon" back in 2010-2011? Man, with all that time of hard work on it, when they're done with that module it must be so well made a Navy fighter pilot would mistake it for his real plane!

Heh indeed.
Just remember, "everything is subject to change" especially wags mind. That seems to change with the days of the week.

DCS Kickstarter
Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable."
Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."

2010-2011? Talk about holding a grudge. Super salty.

Guess the subject of an expansion for Nevada has run dry.

What's a "FC3 level cockpit"?

Considering the only difference is whether the switches work or not, which a bunch of screenshots can't show, I've no idea.

Most likely referring to the place holder FC3 avionics in one of the screenshots. We did get a pretty sweet ground radar image that was made to look to be real time in game.

I'm merely pointing out that the F/A-18 cockpit pictures they've been bragging so much about just don't look any better than the F-16 and Hind pics they had all those years back. It's not about holding a grudge, it's rather about pointing out that the Hornet pictures they've been publishing doesn't mean squat.

And I agree somewhat. I remember the render of f-16 cockpit that was put out by ED but cannot remember exactly was mentioned about it being a future module (I'd have hunt it down when I have time). My point is that the viper (again, not sure about the hind) hasn't been part of "the plan" for a while now. As of now the hornet is the announced next modern DCS jet. Just like Wag's dig states this can also change. I still choose to believe that ED has valid reasons for making changes and not just purposely putting out false information, this I would have an issue with.

It seem the difference now is that thanks to the internet people are able to fallow development plans very closely. People already want to know "what's next" even after new content has just been released. Developers try to be accommodating by being forthcoming about their plans, and now it's written in stone for anyone with some Google skills to find. i think the saying "he who plans early plans twice" applies somewhat in these cases but the old plans are still out there and have to be constantly explained away.

Sooo as we are talking about it, is there a rough half year we can expect the hornet in. E.g. Late 2016 early 2017?

Exactly. The F-16 was last claimed to be under development half a decade ago along with the F/A-18C. They still claim that the latter is coming along well, but after all of these years they have no more to show for it than they could today with the F-16.
