Racing sim? Nothing would disinterest me more. No, wait: TWO racing sims would disinterest me more. As far as drinking games, I already dominated all of them before retiring in 2001. But, wait, don't look now, is that a Lanc on the back wall?

I thought some kind of info would be for the betterment of all, keep people's attention and interest, and perhaps drive sales... This is usually the view of those seeking information, but not the view of those with the information.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.

Duke, if they made a Wooden Ships and Iron men game I'd be all over that. A US civil war ironclads game would be even better. Banjoman, I played that board game for ages! Talk about trips down memory lane.

Bringing back memories... A simulation of naval warfare in the 1700/1800's would be excellent. Not sure how much market there might be out there for it. And the RPG/Campaign aspect of it would be difficult. I believe there have been a couple attempts in the past, none too successful. Still have it. There was also this... Hmm, looks like these books have an pretty good resale on eBay.

If its going to be racing, then it would have to be a 60's era game with the likes of Jim Clark, Hill, Surtees, Brabham etc to make me want to buy it. I already have AC and PCars that fulfills all the other stuff! Trooper, have you tried Grand Prix Legends? The original game was done in 1998 by Sierra / Dynamix, but a mature and dedicated community have modded it to a very high standard even by today's terms. The original game was the 1967 F1 season. Today there are mods for hundreds of Hi-Res tracks and skins, and mods with the complete 1965, 1966, 1967, and 1969 seasons, plus the 1967 sports cars and 1970 Can-Am cars. The AI is damned difficult, and winning a race will take many, many hours of dedicated practice. But if you've ever wanted to skid a Brabham around the old Spa or Ring circuits or throw a Lola through the entire Targa Florio, this is your time machine. Just remember, you're dealing with an 800 hp, ultra-light machine, no downforce, and hard bias-plied tyres. It's like driving on ice.

Played GPL years ago Not sure what the modding process is like, and not sure if I want to do loads of messing around to get an old game running with the latest mods. But I will do a bit of research to see what is involved Because of GPL is the reason I mentioned I'd be interested in a more modern version. If someone was to do a version up to the graphics quality of PCars for instance, I'd buy it in a heartbeat...

Yes gentlemen that would be pretty cool. Especially if you could have a career/trading/exploration as part of it. Crew management, etc. Basically WOFF on the high seas. Recreating rhe life of a frigate captain in the late 1700's/early 1800's would be awesome. Now that's the one that would really tempt me into getting into a new game ... Stache mentioned the difficulty of an RPG element, but that would be something if it could ever be achieved. Just out of curiosity (not making any presumptions about the OBD Devs intentions), is that kind of action and RPG game being done well at all at the moment - I have extremely limited knowledge about any other PC games/sims! The popular ones seem to boil down to mainly fightin' and shootin' from the bits I've seen.
