My Dad and I always liked a Schrade Old Timer in like a Muskrat or Trapper style with two folding blades. I bought He, my cousin and myself one of these Magnum Boker Sheep's foot knife and I love it. Its a lock back.
I've had a Victorinox Champ since about 1988, it has been so useful when I was working, especially the magnifying glass and the tiny screw driver in the corkscrew, my combination that I always carried was a Portasol Pro gas soldering iron and the swiss champ knife.
I inherited my late uncle's Victorinox Wenger knife, don't know what model or year it is from but it is much older than my champ.
Edit: On re-examining my late uncle's knife, it is not Victorinox but Wenger

Last knife I bought was a cold steel folder. Got a couple of free knives from the local LE store, a Schrade and a 5.11 so whichever is handy gets to go along.

Here in the UK I carry a Spyerco which is designed to fit UK laws. It clips inside your pocket and you don't even feel it. I use it every day and it keeps a nice edge.

My last pocket knife was thin little Victorinox. It was confiscated by Taipei airport security when I was trying to get back to Guam after having been stuck in Taiwan with my girlfriend during 9/11. Still sad about the loss.

My grandsons are 12 and 14, and my daughter wanted me to give them a pocket knife they would keep forever, reminding them of me, I've always carried a very small knife. I looked a long time before I found a nice knife by 'Browning', called a 'Featherweight'. I bought two, one for each boy, and had them engraved with their names on the blade;

This thread has shattered a stereotype that I previously held. Namely that it was only Southern or "country" men who carried around pocket knives.

How would you 'cut string'....tape, open plastic boxes, cut a hangnail....I could make a list a page long of things that I've used my pocket knife for in my lifetime. I'd say I use it at least once every couple days, for something or another. Maybe if you were a 'city boy'....you might not use it as much....but I doubt it. I carried one for decades when I lived in the city also. I just use it more in the country, working on acreage. Lots more things to 'fix'.

This is the case for me. If I need to cut something at work I have a box of tools that I can use. If I'm home I just use a knife from the kitchen or a pair scissors. I don't need to carry anything on me because the only time I need to cut something is either at home or at work.

Seriously, not only people on the country side use them. There was a time where I would get out of the office, get a sandwich and walk a couple of blocks to go lunch under a rail bridge. The sandwich was too big to eat without cutting it in half first, a job for the Vic.
I use mine for a ton of crap, in particular that reamer in my Vic Pioneer has made more holes than my actual drill!
Don't even get me started about the time the office door got locked and the electronic pushbutton-lock-thingie had to be disassembled to unlock it and whose Vic did the job, and whose boss was able to get out because of it.

I'm usually outside. Then again, even when I'm inside, I hate to walk to the kitchen, to open a taped box I'm lazy. I think when you get 'used to having it', and it takes up so little room in your pocket, you carry one. Like an M-4.....

I swear by my little Leatherman Squirt. Fits on a key chain and for an everyday little things to do knife/pliers/screw driver just can't be beat.

It's not the size of your knife that matters but how you use it.

Love the manly video. My Dad had always used his pocket knife for little stuff like that, except for the mortal combat with that woodland creature. I was only carrying mine around on weekends. A few years back some lady at work freaked out when she saw some of us guys with our pocket knives. Just decided not to carry it at work or during the week anymore. Many great choices, I cold see how it could turn into a collecting thing.

The last two I bought for myself were a Sheffield, nice but felt heavy in my pocket. Then I bought a Smith and Wesson ExtremeOps (kinda junky). Liked how it looked, but never got used to it. The handle feels too slippery. Paid about $20 a piece. Time to get something a little nicer.

Yeah, that's a problem nowadays, here's where classic looking and small knives come in handy because they don't look threatening... but, modern times... yeah. Some even can be carried into planes again apparently.

Murphy, I've got a Browning that I love immensely. I got it 20 years ago and still love the look of it. In fact the wood looks better and better with handling. If I don't have the Sog, I've got that with me. It's light, but a little bulkier, so doesn't always fit the bill. I retired my Victorinox, I carried that from when I was 12 to in my 20's. I'm glad we didn't have the school violence issues and rules back then, because I had my Swiss Army Knife from 6th grade on me until I retired it. LOL
