Hello there, the question is in the header, i want to put a DVD in my PC, and stream it to the TV. some more details: I have a "normal" Computer, i5 intel 4x with 3,5 MHz, 16 Gb Ram and a DVD Read-and-write. I also have a new Samsung Smart TV 3rd, i have an AVM 7490 "Fritz!Box" DSL-Modem, which also works as a router, and switch. The PC is connected to the DSL-Modem/router via LAN (cable), and WLAN. Both work. The TV is also connected to the DSL-Modem via cable and WLAN. The PC can be seen as a device in the modem list, having its own IP-address. I can watch any film i have on the PC as long it is on the Harddisk, via clearance of said file, or folder. E.g. MP4s or AVIs work without problem. I can not get the DVD being streamed to the TV. Why not? Have spent almost a day, no solution found. Apart from all that, Happy New Year !

I never tried to make that work. I just rip all of my movies to MP4 and stream them from a small NAS box, though I could just as easily stream them from another PC. After the day it is delivered, and ripped, I rarely touch the DVD again.

What about setting up your TV as a 2nd display from the computer? I do this all the time using an HDMI cable from my PC to my TV. I just mouse-drag the player from the PC monitor over to the TV, double-click it to full screen and set audio from my PC speakers to the home theater audio.

Hi, first thanks for your answers. I could of course buy a stand-alone DVD Player, they have become really cheap after the BluRay hype, but i somehow do not want to buy one when I have a working DVD drive in the PC. Using TV as second display is difficult, five meters away (and it's not a laptop).. but this would work, of course. Hmm.. wonder if such a long HDMI cable will transmit the signals alright, but maybe. Regarding ripping, this is a bought copy, so i would have to extract it somehow. Just checking out Playon, this could be it. Thanks, i just thought that would be easy and i just oversaw something

Hi there, have just tried several programs including PlayOn, but it just plain does not work. I also think this is rather complicated to set up So should I better order a triple-shielded HDMI Highspeed 10m-cable to connect from the PC HDMI port to the TV, or would it be better to get a DVI cable from the graphic card, to the TV? Strange it does not work with a RJ45 Lan cable, via PC to Switch to TV. Must be the DVDRom, you cannot handle this like a file.. Thanks, Catfish
